The other day I was travelling bacl from the Lake District and I saw Wigan Pier on a signpost. I asked my wife "Is Wigan by the sea, then?" and carried on to Blackpool before returning to Surrey.
In other words, I can't help you with your friend from Leigh (unless you mean Lee-on-Solent)
