i used to get this right before sleep. my eyes would be open, starting at a fixed object, and id be drifting. then these panics would come over me as if i was being watched or stalked by something in the room until i couldnt move or speak. it usually ended with me having to shake myself out of it after a very long while.
never spoke to a doctor about this though, im not sure it could be classified as a night terror. i asked a professor casually, but she had no insight to give. people usually look at this and think im just crazy.
it happened so often that i decided one night i would ride the episode through to the end and try to remain calm instead of panicking. that put me back to sleep, but i dont have them as often now.

this sounds like typical sleep paralysis
its when the body secretes a chemical that allows for paralysis during sleep so that we do not act out our dreams ... it happens to everyone but ...
some people waken too early or don't fall asleep right away , so the body is paralysed while we are still awake leaving us very confused and scared
this can often be accompanied by hypnagogic state which can bring on hallucination type imagery or sound
the most commonly reported feeling is pressure on the chest

You were probably dreaming even though you can't remember it when you awaken. If you notice persistent feels of panic and paranoia during your waking hours, it could be a sign of something more serious. In that case, go see a doctor just to have yourself checked out.

Your mind is dealing with the trials and tribulations of the day when you sleep. It may night seem like a dream or nightmare, but it is an experience to help you to figure out things in your daily life. When you fix whatever it is that's wrong, then you will have more restful sleep.

Iron Ninja, WHAT friends have you been hanging out with? What habits do you have? I have experience earth bound enities around me.I was advised and did this; Take a shower,as you do so,mentally surround yourself with white light, command "all enities that are not of the light Leave,Leave with LOVE but Leave.Walk through your home mentally and phsyically instilling light commanding all enities that are not of the light to leave, leave with love but leave. if you are again awakened or ever feel this presence repeat the process. PRAY that you may always walk in Gods LOVING presence. LOVE Whistle Britches PS I pray for and invite GODS ANGELS to always be with me. THIS worked for me.

Honestly, it is most likely a sleep disorder.
I suppose it could be something more spiritual, but without knowing any more information, I can't answer that. Only you can.
I'd recommend participating in a sleep study if this is an ongoing occurance.

my aunt had a similiar experience. only that she was somehow stuck to her bed and sensed that satan was forcing her into submission.
let me tell you, that when she declared that Jesus will protect her, satan immediately left and she had a peaceful night's sleep.
And in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, may that spirit never return to disturb you! I declare the freedom of your fear from this evil spirit and the spiritual armour of God to be upon you in the Name of Jesus!
Amen! And may your nights be peaceful with the Lord. Sweet dreams :)

Iron Ninja,
If you eliminate a dream, a guilty conscience, or someone doing things to you, you might consider praying to God. If you are saved, then find a promise from God and claim it before you get out of bed.
Like: "The Lord is my shepherd."
"I claim the Blood of the Lamb."
"The Lord is my Salvation."
" Blessed is the Lord my strength, who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight."
Psalms 95:7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your heart,

I don't know, no personal experience to base it on, the only advice I can give is the next time you wake up feeling like that, rebuke Satan, tell him to get out of your room, and then make sure you ask Jesus to come take his place.
