Hi, sounds to me this person is a Jehovas Witness and they are very against giving blood away. I read a small magazine like thing on their reasons behind not giving blood. They have a pretty good argument on why not to donate. Especially since it's a huge health risk factor and has even made people more sick because of the bacteria found in donors blood that even some cannot detect.
They also talked about blood being where the soul lies and stuff like that. I am not sure exactly what the magazine said I remember a little but that is what I remember.

Yea, that's pretty selfish! And I think there's a difference of giving blood and giving money! But if I can save a life by giving blood I WOULD!!!
And it makes no sense: "For us, the blood represents the life we have and is very valuable before God's eyes,....so no, we wont, give blood, specially if it is for a transfusion..." It represents the life they have? So why don't they help saving another life if they can?!
Well, those Jehova people have a pretty sad life anyway - no birthdays, no christmas, nothin!!! I had one working with me. Whenever someone had a birthday and brought a cake or something she couldn't eat it cuz her "religion" doesn't allow it. How stupid!

Isn't it wonderful that God gave all of us free wills? Imagine if we have no choice but commanded to do things we don't like to do....Whether we are rich in money or blood is an individual's preference...some people do give blood to save a life and that is a very noble thing to do...but with today's diseases and HIV, a person's life is on the line so to speak. Of course if the person has no choice but to take the risk of using other people's blood then, the relevant authorities do all they can not to give tainted blood. But I believe the trend now is to give autologous blood which is using your own siblings or relatives blood which is safer... I also think that the greatest gift that God ever gave was his own Son Jesus, who shed his own blood for us......imagine that...Jesus doesn't know you or me and yet he was willing to die for us....makes you wonder what the value of a human life is isn't it? Read Ps8. It says a lot about we humans and God's magnanimous love for us.... Everything we own comes from God and it will have to be returned back someday. So all I can say to Jehovahs is that nothing belongs to you and if you cannot lay down your life for your own brother...then what are you believing and preaching?

I think it's selfish. Let's ask this question: if that person were in an accident and needed blood to live, he would be given blood. Blood that someone else donated unselfishly to save his life.
I honestly do not understand the reason that Jehovah's Witnesses are so against blood donation especially for transfusions. Is there a valid explanation? I genuinely am curious.

No, I don't consider someone selfish for having religious beliefs. My BF's grandmother is a Jehovah's Witness and had open heart surgery without a transfusion based on her beliefs. The rest of the family was horrified and did everything they could to try and talk her out of her beliefs but she is a true believer. That is true faith when you put your life in the hands of your God. I don't agree or share her beliefs but I do respect them. No they won't give blood but they won't accept it either. The selfish people are the millions who don't give blood for no other reason except they don't like needles or can't make the time.

The answer is inaccurate as well.
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that life comes from God. Blood represents the gift of life. You do not give away such a valuable gift.
It also states in the bible that once blood is shed it returns to God.
I found the question offensive in the extreme.
I was brought up by Jehovah's Witness parents and although I chose not to follow that path, I hate it when I see such an awful portrayal of a group of people who genuinely believe that they have the answer and try to let everyone know before it is too late.
Religious intolerance such as this makes my blood boil (no pun intended).

I think the poster mispoke. The reason Jehovah's Witnesses do not give blood, nor receive blood is because somewhere in the Old Testament, God forbids the taking in of blood...eating it to be exact. It has nothing to do with God saying that blood represents life and they cannot give it away. I'm wondering if the poster is even a JW.

I donate on a regular basis because if I needed it, or my family needed it, then I would want someone else to do the same for us.
I guarantee the ones who refuse to give blood would have absolutely NO qualms about TAKING it if it meant saving their life.
I think they should have a national registry of who donates, and if you don't donate for any other reason than a health issue, then you should not be allowed to receive blood. After all, your body should just reproduce it like you expected the other people who might have needed your blood to do.

Would you force someone whos religion says they cannot eat pork to eat a bacon sandwich.
A lot of diseases are past through blood
Jehovahs Witnesses have donated blood reclyling machines to hospitals which reduce the need for transfusions. The patients own blood is transfused back to themselves, this eliminates the threat of disease.
