In my area, you don't see them working for the Police Dept's or Sheriff's Dept. But it is very common to find them employed at correctional institutions. They do this because a national average of 1 in 3 inmates have some sort of mental health need, weather it is manic depression (bi-polar) to multi personality disorder, to suicidal inmates.

They have access to FBI "profilers", which typically are psychologists that specialize in criminal behavior. I don't think they really have one on the payroll like on "Law and Order - SVU" (I assume that is the one you speak of).
I might be more inclined to believe a "specialized" unit that deals with crime in a more specialized sense might have someone that is paid for their services, but I don't think they would have an officer that was a psychologist right in the station. . .

It is not the police who hire the psychologists. It is the prosecution, and yes they do. The defence also uses psychologists to help defend a client. That part of the TV show is accurate.

sure i will, have you ever heard the previous asserting, in case you have not got self assurance in some thing you will fall for something. did you comprehend that maximum inmates in penal complex beleive in no longer something. cops see this continuously, very few people who're non secular in any respect are in penal complex, so whilst somebody won't lay a hand on the Bible this will strengthen a purple flag, your son grow to be harmless yet being a police officer is a unfavourable activity and that they circulate alot via the numbers, the percentages are whilst so one won't do this they are to blame. attempt to place your self interior the guidelines footwear, those men placed it on the line regularly occurring for our protection. they have families, teenagers, grandskids, wifes and girlfriends, and that they go with them to be secure only such as you go with your loved ones to be secure, in the event that they made a mistake on the being precautious facet attempt to understand that. they have a tough activity!!

Most psychologists, psychiatrists and profilers are on a contract basis. They provide service as they are needed.
