Take him out of the dark room and give him normal amounts of daylight for the time of year. Birds go to sleep in the dark and he will stop feeding if he is kept in the dark. His summer moult is normal and should last about 4 weeks. Give him extra vitamins and some greens, Iodine blocks will help with feather production. If you feed him egg food it will help give him extra protien for the moult. Have a look at my web site for care sheets

Canaries don't shed they molt. It takes about a month for the molting cycle to complete. It happens about every 6 months, more if the heat/cooling in your home is erratic or if their diet is insufficient. All birds need light during all times of the year so your bird does not need to be in the dark. If your bird has bald spots then it is not molting it is picking its feathers and needs to see a vet.

Go to the book store and read the canary book, or just purchase
one. They are very informative.
