I got my kitten when she as 4 weeks old (she was stray) I took her to vet at 5 weeks. The vet said they wanted to see her again at 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Is it necessary to have so many a appointments?

the short answer is no,, unless it appears unwell
vets have a nasty habit of arranging lots of return appointments just to boost their income at your expence,,
take the cat after three months and if it stays healthyafter that it is good to take back once a year for a check up,,
have fun with your cat

good luck

I am dealing with the same thing. I just called to make my kittens first appointment, and they said it would be three different appointments a couple weeks apart from each, starting when he is 6 weeks. They have to give them a series of shots, and rabies shots comes when they are about 10 weeks. This cat is going to cost me more than my rent!

Yes. Kittens and puppies get a series of shots when they are little. They can first receive these vaccinations at 8 weeks. They can recieve there Rabies vaccination, which is required by law in most states, at 12 weeks of age; along with their 2nd series of vaccinations. And there is one more of the series of vaccinations which would be the 16 weeks. After these initial vaccinations she will (usually) only need yearly vaccinations a Rabies and an FVRCP.

Normally, if a kitten is healthy and has had her temp shots, she goes back at intervals until she can have the permanent shots. That's probably why your Vet wants her brought in every four weeks.

I only take my cats if they seem to have a cold or something. They don't really need all those shots and appts. The vets are just trying to get money. I have 3 cats and I've never taken any of them to the vet and they're all in perfect condition.

Right on! It is important that you complete all the kitten's basic shots. Go to: www.littlebigcat.com and read the article by Jean Hovfe, DVM on cat vaccinations.

Yes. They need to give the kitten all its shots so it will be healthy and not catch rabies or feline distemper. Human children need to go to the doctor more often than adults too.

i couldnt' really tell you if the kitten wasn't in good condition when you found her then probably but if she was all right maybe only go to two appointments instead of 3
