Flab will dissapear eventually with any diet and exercise routine that you stick to. Unfortunately, there is no real way to target just your midsection. Ab workouts help, but they will do little to reduce the amount of fat, rather it will strenthen the muscle underneath. Your best bet is to stick to a low carb or low calorie diet and do your best to get in some excercise at least 3 times a week.

It's hard to reccommend something without excercise because that is how I lost 40 pounds. I do NOT reccommend Adkins. Most people that do that put twice the weight back on fast after they are done. The founder, Dr. Adkins, actually died from obesity that caused a heart attack. it cannot be healthy to eat all that fat. It may be a way to lose weight quickly but not healthy and long term. Good luck.

Before you get out of bed, roll over and do 20 crunches. The next day, roll over and do 20 pushups. Alternate every day. When you get up you will feel more invigorated. Drink your coffee and have your carbs for breakfast. Caffine makes you crave carbs....and you will have more energy and the reat of the day to work it off. Don't skip meals and trick your body into going into "hoard mode". Drink lots of COLD water (it has more oxygen) all day. Drink a full glass before each meal to help you feel full. Don't eat until you are stuffed, but rather until you are not hungry anymore (it takes about 15 minutes to be able to tell). eat more than three meals a day (5-6) and make sure each meal does not exceed the size of your fist (except for salad). During your workday (or while relaxing in front of the tv) sit your butt at the edge of your seat, lean back on your elbows, keep your back straight, and lift your straight legs (you can scissor kick or cross over, or just move them up and down). Do this for each entire commercial break during a tv show, or for 100 seconds at a time, 100 seconds for each year you have been alive (32 years=3200 seconds total). Do this several times a day. Dont forget to breathe! And don't use your back muscles to do the work for you. If straight leg lifts are too hard at first, then bend at the knee and straighten, as if you were pushing something away from you, one leg at a time, alternating.
Do this exercise every day, becuase you don't need to change, go anywhere, you can do it at home or work, and it takes virtually no time, you won't sweat profusely, and you have no excuse not to if you want leaner abs. It won't happen overnight, so stick to it for at least 3 weeks before seeing any results....
Drink enough water all day to keep your pee light yellow. Don't let yourself dehydrate.
Abs are tough, and a place where women naturally hoard fat. Watch how many calories you take in vs how many you work off. Don't try Adkins and avoid carbs. He died anyway. You need carbs for energy and staying healthy. Carbs are in bread, crackers, etc. Caffine makes you crave carbs, which turn to sugar during digestion. Also, they are a "comfort food" to many who medicate themselves with food.
Quit drinking soda (32 oz. has about 500 calories!) and juice. And quit fast food (unless it's off the "light" menu, like fish or salad). A good snack to take to work is sliced apples with plain yogurt and cinnamon in a tupperwars. Skip the vending machine snacks. Other that than, you shouldn't have to change much of what you eat, just eat smaller portions more frequently.
Eat a variety of stuff and not too much at once. You have to give your body a chance to process it, and you won't get tired after eating. Drink more water than usual, because it helps your body metabolize better.
Good luck, take care!

There is no diet to target the midsection.

You should really do exercises to work the midsection (including the lower back) to tighten it up

Exercising in any form is by and large the best route to go. Especially if you do so in combination with eating healthier/better. One great thing that you can find lots of information about on the web are the various foods which help to increase your metabolism (i.e. cabbage).

You could also try various exercises in which you can bring the baby with you (i.e. parents n' tots swim classes; baby and mom yoga; there are many of them out there now).

Good luck.
