Make sure you have the same life goals and especially iron out money issues. Do you both want children? Will the wife work or stay home with kids? Do you plan to buy a home or rent?

The old way is the family's wealth. The parents do not think of whether the children are going to be emotionally happy after married, but finacially happy.
That secured the girl's future they think.
