Fellowship with God is striving to know and do the will of God. He is our Father and we are his children (if we are Christians). It is our desire to see where he is working and what he is doing and join him in that work. As people, we were created for God's pleasure. There's no other real reason that we are on this earth.
Broken fellowship is choosing to not do what God desires us to do. Granted, we all fail and fall. It is our job to get back up and rely on the mercies of God to make us right with him. We desire it, and he desires to give it. It is true that we will never be perfect, but those that desire fellowship with God find it--Jeremiah 29:13 says that when we seek God, we will find him when we seek with all of our hearts.
To be outside of God's fellowship is not something that God desires at all. It is a result of our disobedience. We choose to be outside of that fellowship. We do this by sinning or choosing what we want instead of what God wants for us.
I hope this helps. Keep seeking and keep asking questions.

If you are in fellowship with God you know it. Things "just feel right".
It is just like a relationship with anyone else. You know if there is a problem or not.
God is real and is Personally interested in us, in every aspect.

i'd say that a fellowship with God is daily prayer and scripture reading. following God's will and attending (church) services. having no fellowship would be the opposite of that.

I always remember in the old Testament (1 Samuel) the differences between King David (Obedient) and King Saul (Disobedient), principally when the holly spirit is taken away from King Soul.

It's hard to explain the feeling but it's peace and joy. The words don't do the feeling justice. You know though, when you've been wrong and you ask forgiveness and you are forgiven. The feeling of warmth and love and closeness just surrounds you. You just know.

Sounds like a "Church of Christ" thing where well meaning Christians make up rules for membership.
Try a non-denominational, membership-free, verse by verse Bible teaching church. Avoid "topical" studies.
