Generally you do not ahve to have a big sub in your boot, if you dont need the enormous bass that some people desire.
However, if you get a good $300+ Alpine, Pioneer, or any other decent brand head unit that will give you the potential to explore top quality sound.
But you will need the speakers to match and I would recommend BOSE or HARMON KARDON, ideally MIDRANGE inc TWEETERS at Front and Rear, and seperate tweeters at front.

ok, of course you can the system to sound better than a bose. you will to buy a new head unit (cd player), replace your stock speakers because they suck. buy better sounding aftermarket speakers, power them with an external amplifier. as for the bass, you dont need a big box to get good bass. you can buy boxes with an amplifier and a sub already built in. like a Bazooka Bass tube. i'll recomend u visit crutchfield.com they have all the gear you need.

I thought Alpine is one of the best made, state-of-the art. People think bass and volumne is best. I hate subwoofers and distortion is best used properly in music, not what you hear coming out of your speakers. I thought Alpine was famous for pure clear sound. I can't get why it would dis-appoint you in any way.

get a kenwood excelon mp3 player
boston accoustics in the front and back
and a pioneer premier shallow mount woofer. the thing only needs 4". and it pounds. you have to hear it to believe it.
ditch your bose, and ditch your alpine, if you want a system that sounds great.

replace the headunit, ive had a $150 sony for...3 years now? it works. then replace all your mids and highs, I use to run pioneer's they also worked great, make sure to check the specs and make sure that they overlap the Hertz so you get full sound, as for subs all you truely need is 1 8'' for some low Hz bass and maybe a cheap-o amp, can all be hidden so it will never be seen.

I've always like the sound quality Alpine head units give. Don't buy the cheapest alpine receiver u can find. ive always been satisfied with Alpines clarity.
