Ah, you're going to be alright, hon. Do you ever think about the people out there who do have their lives "straightened out", who have found some kind of happiness and meaning and purpose? Somewhere inside of you knows that you're going to get there someday. It's just that. . . well... it hurts right now for you and you wish these bad times were behind you. Give it time. You realistically know that life has its ups and downs and you'll get your turn at better times. But, as for hating yourself ...that's different. You gotta know that there are two kinds of people in this world, girl. There's the Reavers who don't feel safe unless they plunder and weaken others so that they feel stronger. And, there's the Weavers, who don't feel safe unless everyone gets stronger. Interestingly, when the going gets tough and Reavers crack under the load, they show it in anger and hating others. But, when the going gets tough and Weavers crack under the load, they show it in depression and hating themselves. Go figure. But, my point is, even if you aren't in a happy place in your life right now, fundamentally, you sound like you have a big heart. And, that makes you OK in my book. I'll take depressed big hearts over angry pinched hearts any day.

A point for you: you are aware that you are going into a depression. In most cases, people go into a depression unconsciously.

I am sure you don't hate yourself. If you really hated yourself, you wouldn't even ask for help. Right?

It's difficult to give you advice on how to overcome a depression, because there are many possible causes. Anyway, here are some very general tips that may help you:

1. Check to see if you are eating a healthy diet. Avoid junk foods. Have three balanced meals a day. Eat animal protein (eggs, fish, meat). Don't overeat fruit and dairy. In fact, you'd be better to avoid fruit and dairy while you are depressed.

2. Try to sleep better during the night. Rest. Relax. Minimize stress.

3. Exercise yourself outdoors, or go for a regular walk in a natural environment (woods, beach, field, etc). Walk in the sunshine. If possible, bathe in the falling rain (after the storm). Create a relationship with Nature. Make a garden. Etc.

4. If you are a student, study as best as you can, organize your timetable, focus on your career. This must be a priority in your life. If you are already on the job market, do your best in your profession, try to always improve your position.

5. Read good books. Watch funny movies. Talk to significant people. Study philosophy or a foreign language. You need new challenges in your life.

6. Clean your bedroom. Tidy it up. Give away clothes that you don't wear any more. Books that you have read. Etc. Try to simplify your life.

7. Know that everything in life is impermanent. Everything must pass. Know that perfection doesn't exist. Or if it does, it is very brief and not really beautiful.

8. Let serenity rather than happiness be your main goal in life.

Think positive and remember all the great stuff in life. Go on a holiday, eat chocolate, get a pet. 'Cause if you're not happy they're not happy, so you have to be happy for them. You might need counseling or pills, but it's not that bad. You should take them if you want your life straightened out again.

it is good that you are asking this question
write down all the things that worry you or upset you, think about each one and decide if it is worth worrying about or can you throw it away or blame it on someone else
what feelings make you feel that you are depressed, look at them and decide

keep busy doing things that you like to do
dance to music that you like,
take walks and visit the area around you
[ check out the flowers in your neighborhood, walk to a park and watch the kids playing, ask a neighbor to let you walk their dog and spend time with it, hug the dog and then hug yourself
i know you dont want to hear this but if none of this works you should talk to a friend or call the stress hotline [almost in all areas they have stress hotlines] and it works and helps.
good luck

Hey why do you think u hate urself. Try to look at brighter side of life. Make some new friends. You have to be happy and there shall be no reason for it(believe in one thing for a week, just to try it- I have right to be happy and I will just smile). Try this it could help.

Surround yourself with your loved ones. Being around family will help shift your focus from your depression. Fight the urge to do nothing. Ever hear of the saying, "Idle time is the devils work"? In this day and age with the stresses of life we tend to think about all our problems only to worry and create health problems. However, if we are able to keep are minds busy with work, family, projects, hobbies or whatever. We will not fret and worry over our problems which affects our moods and outlook on our lives. When we're always down on ourselves we tend to make any bad situation worse. If our mentality is good, we tend to tackle the problem easier. I wish you luck in straightening your life around. And I hope one day you are able to see the beauty within yourself. God blessed you with gifts and abilitities. He knows what you are capable of. He knows you have the strength to make it through this. God gives us what he knows we can handle. Remember that! Good Luck and God Bless!
