Whevever I view a photo there are lines across it that make it look like the photo has been taken through a venetian blind, as in there will be a stripe that looks as the photo should be and then the next stripe makes that section of the photo look in shade, and so on all the way down the picture. The lines don't show when the picture is being taken and this happens when the camera is set to auto.please help! Is this a fault or am I doing something wrong!

It sounds like there is a problem with the display, check to see if it happens when you set the camera to manual (macro etc) Also do the lines appear when you print? If not then the camera is faulty.

It sounds to me as if there's a problem with the camera itself (unless these lines happen after printing, in which case it's a dodgy printer, but that doesn't sound like what you meant).

Does your camera interpolate? (i.e. it has an apparent higher output of megapixels than it actually takes because it merges the pixels). It could be a problem with the way the camera is fusing the images.

I'm tempted to say it's a lack of light problem, but if it always happens then probably not.

It sounds like an internal fault that should be taken to a good camera shop. If you're UK-based, take it to Jessops, they're always really helpful and should be able to troubleshoot for you. If it's a good-quality digital camera it should be under guarantee for that sort of fault.

I worked at Epson for some time working with scanners which essentially use a similar technolgy that digital cameras utilize, and can tell you from experience that the image sensor is most likely on the outs. Do the lines only appear on the LCD screen? Have you printed out the image? Do the lines still appear? If the line still appears then dont use the auto mode on your camera and just use manual. Typically with most digital cameras it is cheaper to buy a new one rather than have it fixed.

This is the best course to learn photography http://photography-course.kyma.info
I've been doing photography for 4 year now and I still find myself researching different techniques, styles and different ways to shoot a photo, I spend sometimes an hour, 2 hours or even 12 hours on a daily basis trying to search an answer to my question (the same will happen to you if you really want to be great). Photography is a gift and also a talent that one has, the greatest photographers are very passionate about their style like landscape/nature, portraits, and so on. That is what helps us to strive hard to get to where we want. I hope the same happens to you because it is a very rewarding process to see your hardwork in galleries, newspapers, magazines, or even in museums.

Camera fault - if it's in guarantee then send it off for repair or take it back to the shop.

Check the photos on your computer - if they look OK there then it's the screen on the camera that's faulty.

Is this a camera phone? Possibly a low light condition. Use a flash or brighter conditions and see if you still get the lines.
