Go to a restaurant supply house and buy one of the large ones used at the tables in fine restaurants. They have all finely honed stainless steel grinding parts and a lovely wood exterior.

Various spice companies are now selling whole pepper corns in containers that are pepper mills. I find these an excellent alternative to re-filling my regular pepper mill. By the way, do warn your friends who have only used pre-grounded pepper, fresh pepper is stronger.

Fresh ground- Mr. Dudley or Chef Specialties grinders. I've had both types for about ten years and they work good as new. I also got one of the mills that Olive Garden uses, and it's awesome.

Both. You can buy them from the store now with the grinders built into the top. McCormick I think. I used to buy whole peppers and then fill a mill but that was a pain in the butt.

My pepper mill doesn't have a brand name my son made it for me in school. I do agree with you that freshly ground pepper is the best.

Fresh only! I got my pepper mill about 25 years ago, I THINK was at Williams-Sonoma, but I really don't remember.

I love fresh ground pepper too. And salt. I believe I bought mine at a specialty store. Damn if I could remember the name now but it sells only kitchenware.

Fresh ground --- the best
If you can't find what you want at a regular department store? (Sears/Penneys) Try asking at your favorite restaurant --- they may be able to secure one for you, thru their restaurant supplier - I've done this - it works!
