For ear mites, go to the vet. The complications if you try to get rid of them yourself may include a lot of nasty stuff ranging from your cat going deaf to your cat going seriously ill. Or mad (no joking).
Cleaning the years, without mites, is done with a cotton wad wet with water (no spirits), and you don't poke their ears too deep (their ears are structured differently from our own, so don't poke them with a ear-stick, you may cause harm). But for mites, get professional help. And don't delay too much.

Well follow the direction with an ear mite medicine, but also make sure you give your cat a gentle flea bath. Mites can travel outside the ear canal and return back to the cats ear, this is why this problem can be reoccuring even if you just have the one cat and it isnt contracting it from other cats. I had this same problem until I read that the mites can travel outside the ear, I had no idea! Gl!

Both of my kittens came from the shelter with ear mites. The vet prescribed Cerumite 3x, 2-3 drops twice a week. It's made a vast improvement in just the first two doses.
Because of the complications that can arise from untreated ear mites in your cat, I suggest consulting your veterinarian before trying a home or herbal remedy. Left untreated, they severely damage the ear canals and eardrum and can cause permanent hearing loss.

The vet will clean the cats ears and apply liquid medicine in the ears to kill the mites. You'll need a second treatment about 2 weeks later to kill the mites that didn't hatch at first. My vet also applied Revolution to my cat which kills fleas and mites. It was inexpensive, about $40.

They have a medicine that you can get from the pet store. You give the cat a bath and while doing this you put the meds in the ear and squeeze the bottom of the ear gently and get the meds in there real good and that will kill them. Be prepared for your cat to shake its ears and all the ear mites and their yucky stuff to come flying out, its gross.

Go to the vet and get ear mite medicine. Mites are miserable for the cat and can cause lasting damage.

Go to your vet, they'll prescribe Tresaderm. Give 2 drops in each ear twice a day for 2 weeks. Your vet will do a recheck, and make sure that the mites are gone, and you'll be good to go.

Ask your Vet... or buy some Sweet Oil at the store, and put a drop or two in twice a day, and rub their ears. The oil will suffocate the mites. We used to do this with our dog, and I guess it will work the same for a cat.

There is no over the counter remedy. It has to be taken to the vet. BUT.... it's been awhile since my cat had them. There may be something over the counter now. Check with some large pet stores in your area like Petsmart? and ask them.
