All things must be done to glorify God and not for our own will and pleasure. When we have this discipline we have let go of our own selfish desires and our vision has become only to the edifying of God and His servants.

I believe, "Lest thine eye become single" is of the spiritual eyesight, being the third eye. Physical is Mankind who uses two eyes on an everyday basis but may never or rarely use the spiritual eye . The balanced Physical and Spiritual person see's through the physical eyes and a single eye, which is the third eye. All things of Light, of spirit and of love are great seers of the single eye.

Currently my mind has been contemplating the cosmic Laws and the Law of Dharma or right action is a law for the sixth chakra. I believe that discernment is a ne essay faculty for the intellect to turn within towards its own thoughts and actions and become one with the Truth as Thine eye become single means the seeing of Truth and the Law of Dharma that is beyond our own interpretations of right vs wrong. The bible is quoting the action for this cosmic law governing the spirit to find and relate to ourself as a reflection of Truth in its highest reality.

Here is the meaning of single in the greek.
Single- good in the sense of healthy, formally, singleness. Some think a good eye means to be generous and liberal in giving.

What version are you reading?
Mat 6:22 "The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light."

Luk 11:34 "The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when [thine eye] is evil, thy body also [is] full of darkness."

This means that if you want to do God's work than you will seek to do God's work.

If you seek to do evil, than your body will do evil.

Think about it.

the bible also talks about people who "see" but never "perceive" and i think the eye being single is meaning that their views are set on one thing and interpreting other stuff as peripheral, sideline stuff that is not in the main focus.
