I think it stems from a deep love of Jesus. It's not unlike human love... someone who you would feel utterly lost without.

C.S. Lewis once said, and yes I am misquoting, that Christ was either insane, lying or the Son of God. Basically you either believe he is who he says he is or you don't. so, if you think christ was insane than it stands to reason his followers are equally insane, if not more so. And if Christ was lying then is followers are misguided. If he is the Son of God then his followers are nothing without Him. I don't believe this comes from psychological abuse just a differing belief in who you believe Christ to be.

It is quite certainly a leap of faith to believe he is the Son of God. So, in this light, I completely understand all the objections that atheists have. Then when this is highlighted by ignorance, loud mouths, or hypocrisy on the part of the believers in Christ, it only serves to reinforce that Christ was either crazy or lying. Very sad. I do think there are many many wonderful Christians out there though. I know quite a few. Let's stop looking at the man wearing the christian badge and look at the Man who made the badge to begin with.

Are you hitting on women in the religious Q&A? That's insane to me.
Anyway, I am nothing w/out Jesus. As an athiest, you aspire to turn into nothing when you die. Will mankind remember you? Think of all the people in the world tht have lived & are now dead. Think about the forgotten & forlorn.
The only thing tht makes me special is tht Jesus Christ redeemed me by dying for my sins & making a way for me to be w/ Him in eternity. He makes me important, He knew me before I was born. He knows my heart & has given me eternal life.
You can make yourself important & puff up your heart, but your life is only a vapor in time. The way you dress, the car you drive, or the $$ in the bank do not make you important. Material things are onlt temporal as are you.

two words, literally and not literally. It just depends. As for me, I am happy because I am a Christian and I know I am somebody. With Jesus, I am a Christian. Without Him, I am still somebody.
You need power from above or from direct confrontation to get healed from psychological abuse.
It is easy to judge but hard to see from experience.

So ... anyone whose beliefs regarding Jesus are different from yours is "insane."

And you atheists always call us the rigid, intolerant ones!

Why do you atheists insist on calling Christians things like "insane" and "gullible" and "fools" all the time?

Do you really think that employing such language is going to have any hope of winning any of us over to your way of thinking?

You guys sound like Howard Dean when he speaks to white Christian males -- he basically says to them, "You guys are a bunch of privileged grown-up children who've never had to work for a living -- but please, vote for us Democrats anyway!"

Why should Group A even give Group B the time of day, when Group B is doing nothing but calling Group A dirty names?

IT´s called brainwashing, it happens in all religions, muslims even literally die for their God.

Fanatism is a really really bad thing. You can love Jesus or whomever, but you were born with the ability of becoming like Jesus, if that´s your wish, but not no to be anyone´s slave. Even the bible says that.

Religion is manipulation. Faith and admiration is a total different thing .

A lot of Christians do say the same kinds of things about God that battered spouses say about the people that have abused them into total submission.

Which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

The necessity to believe in something like that is a psychological need to relieve themselves of the responsibility and accountability of their actions.
