You're doing it wrong, you're supposed to ask people - you can't just write it down because people will see it.
When you're asking someone you say
Ok, add 1k
Now add 40 to that
Now add 1k
Now add 30 to that
Now add 1k
Now add 20 to that
Now add 1 k
Now add 10 to that
Now add 1k
Now add 1 to that.
What's the answer?
People get it wrong because it's long and complicated to do that. Written down it's easy to see.
Uhm, and yahoo cut your question it seems.

The way I do this is add the 3, 1,000 = 3,000, then add 40 + 30+ 20 +1 = 91 so 3,000 + 91 = 3,091. Any one with just half a brain should be able to do this. I break numbers down in my head to hold numbers then add the remainder. such as 37 + 43+ 56 + 45 = 30 + 40 = 70 + 50 = 120 + 40 = 160. This is what I call my set number, then I add the remaining numbers. 7 + 3 = 10 + 6 = 16 + 5 = 21. 160 + 21 = 181. I also noted that you changed the numbers, from your posted question to your answer question. Your posted question would be 3,070

Since there are trailing dot signaling continuum my guess is that the real answer is the sum of {1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1000+10+1000+0} = 5100.

if you need a calculator to get the answer then you have a problem
1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1 = 3091

Depends.
If it is [1000+40+1000+30+1000] then it is 3070 but your formula seems to go on so it is infinity.

I get 3071, from what I can see. If the three dots are to indicate a pattern, then I would have to say 4080.

3091? Hm...where's the other bracket and why do you have the dots? Curious to see the REAL answer.
