I was an Apostolic for 17 years. I joined it when I was 19 years old, in 1986. I was forced to wear long skirts and long sleeves, I was not allowed to cut my hair, wear makeup or nail polish, go to the movies, or watch television, just to name a few of the rules. On top of that, I was told that the only people who go to Heaven are the Apostolics, and that if I ever left the Apostolic faith I would go to hell.
It was a very unhappy life, and a lonely one too. I stayed so long because I thought I was doing what God wanted me to do, and because I was afraid of going to hell. The Apostolics teach Acts 2:38 is the only way to be saved, which means repenting, being baptized in Jesus' Name and speaking in tongues, and the only way to stay saved is to follow their rules. It's a horrible existence.
Another important point is that the Apostolics teach that there is no Trinity, and that Jesus and the Father and the Holy Ghost are the same. This doctrine cannot be supported by Scripture, but they will throw versus at you so quickly and go on and on and on about how their lives have been changed since they came into the group that you'll start to think you're crazy for not becoming an Apostolic sooner. Watch out! They are the crazy ones.
You will also be taught in the Apostolic church that if you don't tithe 10 percent of your income you will go to hell.
I left when I learned through doing research on the Internet, corresponding with former Apostolics, and through Scripture reading that the Apostolic faith is a revival of ancient heresy and is considered a cult by everyone except the Apostolics.
When I left, I lost all my friends. They wouldn't have anything to do with me anymore. People from the Apostolic church I attended would call me and tell me I was going to hell. Once I was in the hospital with a heart problem, and they called my husband and told him that God was punishing me and I'd better get back to the Apostolic altar.
It was a nightmare! God brought me through it all, and I have a wonderful life now, but if I had to do it all again, I would not! The Apostolic faith brings depression, oppression and confusion, and the people are very mean to you unless you do everything they say. It is a cult in every sense of the definition.
Please, please stay away from these people and their church. They will pretend to be your best friends, they will shower you will love and attention, but once you become a part of them you will be indoctrinated and then ignored, but you will be too afraid to leave for fear of going to hell.
A good website to start out with is letusreason.org. It is a wonderful resource about all kinds of faiths, good and bad, and deals with the Apostolic cult extensively. Also search for terms such as "The Psychology of Cults" and "Spiritual Abuse." Thanks to the Internet, there are all kinds of things available, including testimonies of people who have left. Many of these people leave their email addresses on the sites so you can email them personally. I did that and received a lot of support.
From research you will learn that the Apostolic church has less than 400,000 members in North America, though they claim to have 17 million, that their membership has been declining since 1988, that they have been sued many times for telling children they're going to hell and for other wrongdoings, and that they did not become a religion until about 1901 when a bunch of people started speaking in tongues and made up a new doctrine. Like I said earlier, it is a revival of an ancient heresy called Sabellianism. You can look that up too.
A good book to read is called "Christianity Without the Cross," which is about how the Apostolics teach that you get to Heaven by what you do and what your religion is, not by what Jesus did for us. It also talks extensively about the lies the Apostolic leadership tells the followers in order to get money and keep members. It was written by Thomas Fudge, whose father used to be an Apostolic minister.
God has a much better life for you. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Please.

That's a great question,I'm apostolic and its the best life a person can have if there apostolic. It means to believe the apostolic doctrine and everything Christ taught his apostles and gave to his church, the apostles taught the church that they had to REPENT and be born again of the water and the Spirit. John 3:5 and Acts 2:38. and live holy to make into the kingdom of God Hebrews 12:16...When i first heard of it i was kinda stand offish, because it wa new to me,but when i actually put my heart in it i was completed i was baptized in the name of Jesus christ for the remission of my sins on January 2nd,and i was never the same my eyes became so much clearer and i saw things in life that other ppl don't see(not like I'm going crazy)but i understood things and can discern things.and then i received the gift of the holyghost like Acts 2:4,and i have been in the faith, loving every minute of my life and praising the Lord Hallelujah !

The word "Apostolic" is really the teaching of the Apostles. It is not a certain group of people that is seperated from other christians. For a long time many of us thought Apostolic was only for pentecostal ministries. In the NT it gives various scriptures on when Jesus choose the 12 disciples whom He also named Apostles ( Luke 6:12 - 16) It was thru them that He established the birthig of the Church.

Apostolic is an adjective meaning of or relating to the Apostles. There were only the Apostles appointed by Christ and there cannot be any others, neither can foundational and eyewitness authority be passed on. People who say otherwise, by what they say deny the Apostles. Apostolic is normally used by people or organistations to derive some kind of spurious authority for themselves. Pentecostal is also an adjective meaning of or relating to Pentecost but has acquired the staus of a noun in common usage to describe a particular form of denomination or cult that has taken something from the Bible and given it a twist to correspond with its own ideas. The phrase Apostolic Pentecostal really is meaningless but is generally taken to refer to some kind of sect or cultish organisation or view that has taken some part of truth and twisted it to make a prominent teaching for themselves. The Bible teaches us all about Jesus Christ and it is Him we should follow and have Him manifested in our lives. Sadly people cleave to the teachings of men and not to Christ. If they were to cleave to Christ there would be no divisions. At best men show themselve to be babes and carnal, at worst not to know Christ. And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? To seek to follow Christ, to hear Him and have Him indwelling and leading would do away with all these hateful divisions and twisted teachings. Meanwhile it is open for any individual to walk free of men's teachings and hold fast to Christ. In that God tests every heart.

Gabrenda,Follow your Heart, but listen to the discrimination of your head. Churches, concepts and experience are the stepping stones of spiritual growth. KEEP MOVING lest you lose your balance. SEEK GOD with and open mind and PURITY OF HEART. MY view is that Penetecost wake up the spirit of God within but don't fully understand the process there fore they don't rise fully into the spirit of GOD. THIS IS BUT MY VIEW only way to know "APOSTOLIC" is to be one. LOVE whistle Britches
