A manifold is generally a larger pipe that joins several smaller pipes together into a common connection. Examples are the intake and exhaust manifolds on a car. The intake manifold distributes air and gas from a common chamber to the individual pipes that run to each cylinder. The exhaust manifold takes the individual pipes from each cylinder and combine them into the common pipe for the exhaust.
