I agree, shelters are the best place to get a new pet. For one, they're much cheaper than buying a dog. The people in the shelter do what they do because they love animals, not because they are trying to make money. And if you get an animal from a shelter and it turns out not to be a good match for you, the shelter will take it back, no questions asked.
Mixed breed dogs are the best, because you can get all the great personality traits of dogs you like in one pet. My dog is a boxer / jack russell terrier mix named Emma. She's a total clown and a cuddle bug at the same time. And she has the most adorable under bite.
Go to http://www.petfinder.com and browse until you find the dog that was meant for you.

Well, my favorite dog is a doberman....I had one and her name was aries. She was so cool! She was the loyalist dog I ever had. Sometimes I think she thought she was human. The dogs I have now are a pitbull/sharpei mix (Gunner) and a shepard mix (Buddy). Muts make the best pets.....especially if they are rescued. My advice to you would be to go to your local shelter or pound and see those dogs and give one a home from there....those dogs deserve to have a good home....and not that other animals don't.

I have a toy poodle named Baby. For one she doesnt shed (perfect for an indoor dog) She is so sweet hence the name Baby. So im guilty of treating her like one she is small and cute. I just love her. She has a great personality, good with my son, just all around a good natured pooch.

Dachshunds. I love them sooooooo much. They are funny, loyal, adorable, precious, did I say funny already?
I love people name's for my pets. I gave both my dogs people names and it suits their funny little faces.

I like mix dogs the most, you would have less problems with its haelth, you can choose parts from the dogs you like and combine a unique dog

I have a pit bull named Sadie. My mom has chihuahuas named Petey, Rocky, Skittles, and Lucy Liu.

i've always wanted a teacup.. preferably a maltese or a yorkie. They are such adorable pets. I'd name mine "tiny" cause the dogs are so small.

I love Shelties... they are not too small, but not too big. They are great for apts and for homes. They have the sweetest, kindest, funniest personalities. They are very very loyal to their masters. Great around kids!! It only took me two weeks to train all my shelties. I've always received compliments on my Shelties due to how beautiful they are.
The only flaws of them are can be shy at times, but take time to warm up.
