Exercise. Going for a walk in the evening soon before the sunsets. Reading a light-hearted book. Or doing something that makes you really happy. Yoga might be good too-- my sis does that and loves it, and she doesnt pray to buddha or anything like that.

Music!

Plenty of days I have lifted a bad mood simply by striking a few chords on my guitar. It really helps when the amp is turned up, too. Rockin' out is amazing for translating anger and stress into a positive form of energy, and has even fluorished into a few song ideas for me.

And if you don't play a musical instrument, just as potent is listening to music others have written. Depending on what your mood.... Joe Satriani is really good for putting me in a relaxing mood. When I am really stressed or angry I turn to Alice in Chains or old school Metallica.

And if music doesn't do the trick for you, talk with some friends about what's going on. Somebody listening to what's going on in your life will surely help you through whatever you're going through :)

And the best option of course is to find someone to give you a really good massage ;)

There are as many ways to deal with stress as there are people who suffer from it. The key is knowing what de-stresses you and remembering to do it often enough. Too many people know the answer but won't invest the time in themselves.

I once was asked by my VP if I was going to attend a stress management seminar my company was sponsoring and I actually said "I'd love too, but I don't have the time." He said, "Sounds like you really need to go." So I did and it was a good thing too.

When I am stressed I like to read fiction - it distracts me from whatever I was stressing about. Some people de-stress from socializing. Some people de-stress from meditation. Some people like to listen to soft music, or listen to really loud music and scream out the lyrics. EVERYONE de-stresses from exercise. Pick something you like and get your heart pumping.

Whatever you pick make sure you set aside time to do it and remember you DESERVE that time. It's like maintenance on your car. It's not a luxury - it's necessary to keep you functioning.

De-stress every day after work by leaving work at work. Chill out in some favorite manner at home.

Take mini vacations once a month. Decide on one weekend a month that you can take day trips or go to state parks or go for a hike or whatever you like to do. And just do that stuff for the entire weekend to help de-stress your life.'

Stress is when you feel overwhelmed by issues you have to face in your day to day life. All these issues swirl around in your mind and you are unable to latch on to what is really causing you the most anxiety,

Firstly write down every issue you can think of on separate bits of paper. Once written down you have given each of these issue an identity that you can now tie down. Write down on each all the worries you have and now analyse them all and see what you can do to resolve them. You may not be able to but at least you have clarity of mind and you can start working towards solving them. Okay, it isn't easy to solve partner or family problems but silly things can be sorted so that you can focus on handling the more difficult problems without worrying all the time.

The Bach flower remedies are excellent, especially Rescue Remedy which really calms you down. Have a good read

You've had lots of good answers, and I'd like to add one, write morning pages. That is three pages of stream of consciousness handwritten every morning before doing anything else. It seems like a lot of time to devote to something that you can never use for anything, but honestly, I have been doing this for almost ten years now, and it has made a bigger difference in my life than anything else, it is a type of meditation that is well suited to a verbal mind.

Meditation, 20 min/day. Sit relaxed, quiet place, breathe slowly and deeply, and try to keep your mind clear of all thoughts. At first it may be a challenge but you'll get better and you'll deal with stress better too.
