I think the bigger question here, that no one seems to be able to answer, is WHY has it changed? Why, if it was so ingrained into the faith, is it now ok to do what was once a sin?

I was told, by a Catholic Priest, the tradition of not eating meat on Fridays was started because a long time ago fishermen were not making a lot of money. To help them out the Priests, at the time, declared every Friday instead of meat, fish should be eaten. Anyway I believe you can eat meat whenever you want, biblical verses to back it up:
Romans 14:2 -5, 6

Going to hell has nothing to do with what you eat or drink. The catholic church decided to lift the "fish on Friday" rule a number of years ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything spiritual. Just a man made rule.
There is nothing vague about Christianity. The Bible is very clear about how one gets to heaven. A personal relationship with Jesus is what it takes, nothing more, nothing less. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me." John 14:6
It doesn't get any clearer than that my friend.

Not according to the Catholic church.
OHHH! That is right they rescinded that after it was dogma for hundreds of years.
Must have been a mistake on the part of the infallible one that leads them. The Pope I mean.
Watch out here comes religion, it will grab you.
Hold on to your wallets.
Because he wears black, he must be right.
Because he went to cemetery ( I didn't make a mistake )he must know what he is talking about, right?
WRONG!
Lets talk about Lent.
Got to give up something for a period of 40 days.
Does anyone know where this comes from?
It is a hold over from a pagan religion.
There was a woman named Sammis who was married to Nimrod who concieved a child by moon beam.
The child was named Tammuz. When he became a man, he was out hunting and a wild boar attacked him and he died. The women went into morning and crying and fasting for 40 days and he came back to life.
It is written about in the Bible.
Ezek 8:14 Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
It is an abomination to the Lord.

For Catholics, it used to be that we could not eat meat on any Friday during the year. In addition, we could not snack between meals.
Nowadays, though, this rule only applies during Lent.
Certain people are exempt from this rule -- including children, senior citizens, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

The word that God gave has never changed. Its people that try there best to change it to meet there own needs. Gods word is solid. Peoples interpretation of His word changes all the time. That's where the conflict comes in. Yes its ok to eat meat on Friday. We are set free by the blood of Christ. Jesus came with a new covenant for us in the new testament. He came to set us free of all bondage. Be free in Him. God Bless!!

Stop listening to the pope...he doesn't know squat.
It's perfectly okay to eat meat on Friday. The custom of abstaining on Fridays is an old pagan practice...come to think of it, a lot of Catholic teachings are old pagan practices.
The Bible says that teaching people to abstain from meats is a doctrine of devils.

Weren't Romans the people who named the days of the week? If Friday was to be exchanged with say Tuesday then would it mean we stop eating meat on Tuesdays?

It is OK but only if you substitute some other form of offering or denial. My family eats the flesh of no warm blooded mammal on Fridays ever.It is not a law but an offering. And GWB has nothing to do with it. He is not Catholic.

Why are you deciding what to eat based on what some yahoos said 2000 years ago? Instead, figure out what a good diet is for you and follow it. There's no boogeyman in the sky who's going to punish you or even cares what you eat.

To eat meat is fine as long as you eat what God considers to be clean. No shell fish, or meat from an animal that choose it's cud or has a split hoove. But your mouth could use some soap and water though.
1 Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
