When I board a train, I feel that it will derail or there will be a blast. When climb steps, I feel like I'm going to fall. When I'm at home I am scared that there'll be an earthquake. When I'm cooking I feel scared that the place will catch fire. I hope you understand what I'm saying. What's happening? Don't tell me to go to a doctor, is there something else you can suggest?

Hey DBM,

That is the last thing you need to worry about!

Your fear is telling you something. Listen to it. Maybe you need to be careful with stairs, have an earthquake plan, be careful cooking, and have a fire extinguisher handy. Your fear tells you that you need to learn something. Use it.

See the FEAR OF DEATH web site below.

Also, maybe talk to some in you faith, if you are religious. Pastors will talk to you even if you are not of FAITH!

All the anxiety you feel can probably be controlled by medication. I think a doctor visit is the only way. This kind of thinking is robbing you of enjoying life right now. You could try telling yourself to see the positive aspects of situations instead of focusing on negative possibilities. Such as: maybe the train will arrive early and I will have more time for sight seeing, or when you cook tell yourself what a nice meal this will be etc.

Yes, Banana, there is something else you can do. You need to accept the reality of death. Everyone dies, you will die. You will die exactly one time. Until that time you are perfectly safe.
You are safe every single day of your life. There is only one day that you will die. So, just begin to live your life everyday with pleasure. Because this is just a day, a day like every other one. You are alright today, nothing happened to you today.
What you are actually experiencing is adrenaline. So much adrenaline every day is not good for you. You can learn to settle your body down, as was suggested, by meditation. There are many different kinds, find one that you personally find pleasurable and start off your day with it each and every day as soon as you wake up and before you do anything else.
Then, throughout the day you will find that you can remember that safe feeling you had, and just return to it to keep the adrenaline out of your blood, you will feel better, the fears will become more noticeably unreal. Feel Safe, Friend, Good luck.

You will die, but worrying about it is only going to bring it about sooner.

Perhaps you should face some of your fears. Like catching some clothing on fire in a controlled environment and try putting it out.

If you think you are going to fall on a step, envision what you would do to prevent injury, and likewise for an earthquake.

Living with the expectation of death all day is no way to live. You'd be better off dead, so try to think about what you'd do positive instead of planning to be the victim.

PARANOIA. It feeds upon itself, so it gets worse. But you can handle this! One method to convince yourself that you will be OK is to count the number of days you have managed to survive all of these 'horrors' so far. Then think of the very worst experience you ever had and that you managed to survive that too. Whatever you are doing, will seem far less threatening. Keep in mind that many. many people have all gone through the same things you have and all survived. Take your mind off the tension and think about where you are going or what you will be doing. Plan fun things in your head, instead of thinking about what will not happen. YOU WILL BE OK....... REALLY! Enjoy life! Also, listen to classical music. It is very calming and soothing. I recommend Vivaldi's The Four Season's, and Mozart's
Symphonies for starters. Light Rock might also work for you. Try the Beatles. Uh..... but no Heavy Metal...

you're paranoid. You should see a doctor.

Your problem is you think that there's some easy quick-fix, which is naiive. By coming off with this 'don't tell me to go to a doctor' mentality, you've already resigned yourself to excluding people who can ACTUALLY help you. Sorry, but the stuff well-meaning people post here like, 'just breathe and relax', or 'meditate and develop calmness in your life' isn't going to help you. If something so easy as telling you to get a grip would work, you wouldn't be having this problem anymore.

So get off your high horse, put your ego in check for 5 minutes, and go see someone who can actually help you.

I used to be that way too. Chances are slim that your train will derail or your house will catch on fire. Try to think of something else. Maybe get someone to be with you during those times who can help you through it.

I think, besides seeing a doctor, meditation would be great for you. Each day, sit relaxed in a quiet place, breathe slowly and deeply, and try to keep your mind totally clear of all thoughts, for 20 minutes. If thoughts creep in, acknowledge them and send them away. In time, after doing this a few days, you will get better at keeping your mind clear. And you will be amazed at how much your life improves, not just with your constant fear but with a lot of other things too.

Perhaps the fear goes deeper than being afraid of death.

You have to ask WHY are you afraid to die?

I always pray that I don't die when I'm driving long distances or something risky, etc because I'd like to stay on earth as long as possible. But I know that when I die I'm going to heaven. I am not worried what is going to happen to me when I die, I have assurance of where I am going. Perhaps you are lacking this? I know that if I didn't have Jesus I'd be scared to do things, too.

Short of that, I suggest you live everyday as if it is your last. You know what.... your time is your time and there's nothing you can do to change that. If you do die by falling off your steps, oh well it's not like you intentionally killed yourself. Take every caution necessarry not to take stupid risks but remember not to be afraid to try new things and do the activities you love... otherwise you might as well already be dead.

Everyone dies. You should rationalize the thoughts when you're having them. Like the train won't derail because they check the safty every _ days and the likelyhood of it happening is 1 in 10,000.
