Alot of men had beards or moustaches in the handelbar variety, either that or long foppish fringes and round shortish bob cuts for younger men. The army often had shorter hair with moustaches or beards depending on where they were in life. Often older men would grow distinguished long but well trimmed beards and moustaches and younger men would have slighty longer hair but with a half over flicked side of hair
