I've never heard of such a thing (wanting to stop mosquito spraying). I think that is absurd. There are thousands of mosquito's in all areas and I don't see a problem in spraying where people live. They used to spray at least once a week when I was a kid.
This is to the "godfather" Insect sprays that go on the body such as 'Off' contains deet. That is what kills the mosquito's. When you see the bug man that is coming around in the truck why would still be outside? Go inside while he/she sprays let it settle (2 min) and then go back out side. Your right, it doesn't get all of them but it does get a majority of them and it helps the public. And Cigarettes have nothing to do with this post.

There will be people who continually believe that human life is less important than the environment. Mosquitos are responsible for more death and illness, worldwide, than any other animal species. The proper use of pesticides definitely decreases the number of mosquito-borne illnesses. Eastern Equine Encephalitis is a severe infection. Everyone seems to be more concerned with West Nile Virus but, EEE and SLE ( St. Louis Encephalitis) are much more dangerous. There is a much higher fatality rate, along with the distinct possibility of permanent neurological damage. Spraying is the best way to control the vector population over a large area. The pro-environmentalists are often dealing with less than scientific data to support their claims. They also tend to have very antagonistic views on most other environmental issues such as logging, emmision control, global warming etc. Spraying can be done in an environmentally sensitive manner. You will not find an environmentalist that will accept that thought. I wonder how they will feel when a loved one or friend battles for their life with an infectious encephalitis? Pesticide management of mosquito populations in third world countries has done more for Malaria control than any other technique.

Basically ignorance, and arrogance at the fact that we have accepted as a culture the premise that not a single human life is worth any danger to the environment.
BTW, as for the comment above about DEET. The NEJM published a broad article addressing this issue four years ago, and the conclusion is that DEET is extremely safe. There have been billions of applications without a single recorded bad effect from it.

My street was sprayed for mosquitoes last night. I live in an area that has had in the last three years many cases of West Nile. Friends and neighbors of mine have had it, this disease is not a phantom to me it is real. I hate the spraying, I have asthma and it flares it up every time they spray. I also have a memory of all the times they told us DDT was safe-Whoops!
I'm in public health myself, there has to be a better solution for all.But for now I'm stuck in the house in my air conditioning.

You don't seem to be concerned about the effects of pestisides on the human body. Not concerned with cancer obviously as you puff on that cigarette. Use a mosquito repellent that contains deet. Better than spraying insecticide and killing all the beneficial insects too. Plus, spraying for mosquitos does not kill all of them.

Ridiculous.. ok yes pesticides can have other effects, but they sale pesticides at places such as wal-mart. Are they going to tell us that we cant use pesticide in our own yards next?
Do you think people dealing with black plague would of cared about any harmful effects of pesticide.
If someone has a real issue with things of that nature then they should be protesting the big pollution plants, contaminating air and water. Oh wait that wont get too far, they pay fines to keep operating.. I think they would rather have the pollution and big pay off.

I would rather they spray than have more people end up with West Nile Virus and die, or have their health compromised.
