Mine was just diagnosed. Any pointers or any advice you can give? How does your cat do with the insulin shots?

I used to have an old overweight cat that developed diabetes. He got very used to the timed feeding, and insulin shots. To give him a shot, i would bunch up the skin on the back of his neck, quickly poke the needle in, and get it out as fast as i could. he wouldnt really even notice it. the main thing to keep your cat going, is making sure you give him the right portions of food, however much your vet recommended.

I haven't had a cat truly diagnosed with diabetes. I had one who had insulin spikes but that was a side effect of another disease.
Our friend had a lovely cat that lived till a ripe old age with diabetes. It was important that his schedule was kept and his sugar levels were monitored(just like a person). Feeding schedules were really important and regular vet visits a must.
I never had to give him shots but many people were trained as the friend traveled and the kitty sitters had to know what to do. No one found it too hard as long as they were gentle but firm.
The cat made it to about 15 or 16, pretty decent for any cat.

side note:
to those folks"upstairs", anything with a pancreas can develop diabetes

My first cat, Ebony, had to put to sleep because of it. She was fifteen, had kidney disease and her sugar level was so high that the vet told me that the insulin probably wouldn't work. I couldn't let her suffer any longer. I hope your cat does wonderfully with the insulin shots--I really miss my Ebony!
