Cause we live in a primarily Christian society where Satan is viewed as evil. Most people in the West have grown up having it drilled into their heads that Satan = evil. It's very hard to get over that idea even after leaving Christianity. It ain't easy getting past 10, 20, 30, or however many years of Christian thought you've had drilled into your head.

Everybody that is Born on the EARTH since Adam are born LOST.
They have Inheirited a Messed-Up Spirit from Adam.
Adam messed his up when he committed High Treason.
A LOST PERSON, because of his Free-Will can chose to be a GOOD PERSON.
A SAVED PERSON can chose to be a GOOD PERSON.
Having a messed-up Spirit just mean's that you will not be able to go to Heaven in the End.
Has nothing to do with HOW a person choose's to Behave while Living on the EARTH.
Satan IS Evil.
When a person say's Satanic, that is what come's into his,her mind.
It's that Simple.
GOD LOVE's all HUMAN BEING's and want's Everyone of us to get that messed-up Spirit Recreated (Born-Again) and make it Home to Heaven.
It's that Simple.
Hope this helps.

Because people associate Satan with evil. Because he is.
I know the origin of Satanism, and I know that they do not worship Satan. But you have to admit, the wording gives it all away. How can people NOT believe that Satanic people are evil?

The Babylonian Talmud states that the Evil Inclination (Yetzer ha-Ra), the Angel of Death and Satan are identical. So we have the notion that Satan worshippers worship the Angel of Death. In some works some rabbis hold that Satan is the incarnation of all evil, and his thoughts are devoted to the destruction of man. One rabbi notes that Satan was an active agent and tempter in the fall of man, and was the father of Cain, while he was also instrumental in the offering of Isaac, in the release of the animal destined by Esau for his father, in the theophany at Sinai, in the death of Moses, in David's sin with Bath-sheba, and in the death of Queen Vashti. The decree to destroy all the Jews, which Haman obtained, was written on parchment brought by Satan. In the Bible the one named Devil and Satan is shown to be an angel who rebelled against God - the one who spoke through the serpent and seduced Eve into disobeying God's command. He is also identified therein as the accuser of Job, the tempter of the Gospels, and the dragon in the Book of Revelation. He is called "the ruler of the demons" (Matt. 12:24); "the ruler of the world" and even "the god of this world." (2Cor. 4:4) The Bible book of Revelation describes how Satan is cast out of Heaven, down to the earth, having "great anger" and waging war with those "who have the work of bearing witness to Jesus" until he is destroyed forever in the "lake of fire." (Rev. 12:7-17; 20:10)
Today, some people that identify themselves as Satanists claim that Satan is a real being, some view him as a symbol for the animal desires of humans, and some view him as a symbol for the rebellious or independent aspects of humanity.
SO, most folks assume Satan worshippers are social deviants who worship death, rebellion, lust and evil, and specifically have allied themselves with an angelic being that desires the destruction of all humanity.
Can't imagine why anyone would have a problem with that? I suspect many become involved specifically because they know people will have a problem with it and that rebellion against social and religious norms makes them feel powerful.
I think all superstition is silly, but not all superstition is harmless. I think a superstition based on a view of humanity that is bestial, self-centered and hostile to humankind as a whole is probably gonna cause trouble.

Because they still believe that the addition to the Bible by the Catholic Church shortly after Dante released his Comedy is "the true word of God." - the Catholics told people at the time that Dante was divine and that his message was a message from God.
Except, he makes it know to people that his stuff was just sci-fi type writting. Doesn't matter, Catholic Church outlives him and waits a few hundred years then re-releases it in the Bible as "The True Word of God"
So these Christians are walking around pretending that there's a hell full of fire with a Satan eternally chewing on people, and pits of fire and all that jazz.

Personally, it's been my experience that anyone calling himself a Satanist is typically one of those nerdy types, lashing out at the society that shunned him in his formative years.
It's rare to see a Satanist that is truly "evil", such as the murderer that just got executed a week or two ago. Most of them are harmless, working at Burger King, and playing Dungeons and Dragons in their mother's basement.
Boy, I can be so cruel. But yes, that pretty much sums it up.
But seriously, how foolish is it to worship "the devil"? If you're going to believe in fairy tales, why on earth would you choose to worship the villain, who is destined to lose, according to the very mythology that created him? It's just silly, childish behavior.

Satan is a character in a story.
Whether you believe the story or not, he is, quite clearly, the BAD guy.
Satanists are known to follow his methods.
Thus...... they too are bad guys.
Grow up.
