Exactly. They say that to not make the other team feel bad when really they're thinking the other way around in their heads. It sucks because you know they're lying because if they lost, you wouldn't say that to them... Lol. That's all I know. It's another way of 'faking' goodsportmanship because the coach probably told them to say it...

i think you already no the answer to this question yourself..it has been a traditional way of softning the blow for anyone or any team that has just suffered a defeat,
like a kids football match, the thinking behind it is to devalue victory by under stating the importance of the victory and hopefully the kids will not feel so miserable when defeated,
me personally i hate loosing and nothing would soften the blow for me,,but i would be more determined next time to avoid the same feling you get when you loose,i much rather prefer to be on the winning side and let others comfort the loosers,,,lol x

I tell my kids it's only a game no matter if they are winning or losing. I sign my kids up for sports to teach them rules and for comradeship. I also reinforce to them it does not matter if they win or lose just how they play the game, a saying my father instilled in me. Not EVERYONE is a poor winner, just some people. I am sorry if you have experienced something to make you feel that way.

When they win, they will celeberate, so they say stuff like "HA! Losers!"
Then the losing team says 'its only a game" to console themselves that winning is not everything

Its a subtle way of bragging and saying that the other team is a bunch of sore losers

I disagree; about winners saying this. We were taught this when we gave it our all (as children), and still were defeated.
My sons learned (to take this dose of medicine) about how to play games throughout their growing years.
It's odd to me that people would say this when they were winning.
Instilling good moral values is the responsibility of every caring adult.

Have a really good day!

people live in greed, so when people are winning to them they want to keep winning, when people say, "It's only a game" it is only to make an excuse to say their not greedy.
