Unfortunately you can't ask your tutor without compromising your intellect or independence. Go to your library and look in the rear index of the compendious art history encyclopoedias for 'hands'. Otherwise 'google' but remember to use additional words to cut down the number of hits; hands, painting, british artists (or american or whatever). Some final advice from personal experience: if you are having difficulty finding bibliographic support for your idea be prepared to ditch it and find a topic easier to research. Don't let your attachment to your idea scupper your time management.
Well done Mr Lascaux! This was a genuine cry for help and apart from the french schoolboys everything else in your answer was factually incorrect or a mish-mash of opinion piled on ignorance. It's time to read a modern archaeological script not a racist rant about grunting cavemen.

IN 1940 four french schoolboys discovered a cave opening hidden by bushes.....they went inside , after some ten minutes their torch picked up a shape of an Animal, then more, then another .....the cave is in Lascaux, the paintings are the most descriptive and concise in their context and visual delight , they are reputed to be 200.000 years BC.
the cave dweller that painted them had no name, could not speak a discernible language and yet created such beauty in the darkness and lonely gloom on a craggy cave walls ......why ??? .....nobody knows. such are the exquisite nature of the ' Picassoesque' depictions that this grunting neolithic creature did to while away boredom??....the good thing about this as a study format is you don't have to draw a comparison with reference to other ' heavenly' idealistic crap that Artists discuss in bright open gallery's . type in " cave paintings" on google.

Depends on what type of work you're interested in. For example, if it's using optical illusions in art, try Briget Riley. If you want to explore how 20th century artists used flowers in painting, there's Georgia O'Keeffe. If you want to look per country, try 'English artists'. If it's the subject matter, try 'masks in art' for example. If it's movements, type in 'Op Art' or 'Dadaism' or 'Surrealism' or whatever ... basically go with something you like.

The classic hands painting is a drawing by Albrecht Durer - look out for it. You might like to look at Michaelangelo's 'David' Statue and the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel

Go to an art gallery in the first instance. Visit local, independent galleries. Have a look at old-fashioned things called books!
