It's also a car, its short for Cosworth which is an engineering company which Ford had a big interest in. Cosworth took standard Ford engines and redesigned them, often resulting in massive gains in power. Ford then marketed cars with these re-engineered engines fitted as the high performance versions of standard cars. The Sierra, Escort & Granada were all models which benefitted from this. Your brother in law obviously meant your Swimming Costume, I thought though that you might be interested in the other meaning of the word.
