You should start when they are big enough to walk around by themselves without falling every secound. Just by putting them in the box every hour or so gives them the idea that that's where they need to go to the potty. If you plan on letting them be outdoor cats you should just train them to go outside like dogs do (it's just as easy as getting them to go int he box). Then you have no stinky litter box!

Kittens begin using the litter box as early as 5 weeks. However they usually have a role model (their mother) to teach them this. If you have a kitten that isn't using his box, you should put him in a bathroom (or small room) for a few days with food, water and a litter box. Check on him often. If you see him trying to go to the bathroom somewhere besides the litter box you should immediately put him in the box. If he tries to get out, put him back in.
If you find that he's already pooped on the floor you should put the poop in the litter box and clean up the area he messed on. He should get the idea very quickly. Just don't let his litter box get too full or he'll quit using it.

Most kittens (domestic) will have learned to use the litter box with rarely to no accidents at about 6 -8 weeks. If you have a kitten that was feral, lived outside or had no momma cat, it could take a bit longer.

I got my kittne when she was 4 weeks old and it only took her afew days to get used to the litter box. SHe had only three accidents. Every so often put your kitten in the litter box and move her paws around in the litter. she should get the hang of it.

Start introducing them around a month - you can show them what to do, and so will their mom. Make sure you have a low-sided box without much litter in it. If they do business in there, you may have to show them how to cover it up - for some kittens, over and over. Be persistent with teaching them, and they won't make messes.

When you get the kitty home, place it in the litter box, it'll be nervous and may just pass urine, it will smell it out from there on. Generally you should be free of accidents after 3 months old.

before they are even ready to go you can start getting them to use the litter box, make a small one and guide them to it, they will, eventually start using it, specially if they see there mom using a litter box.

if the mother uses her box the kittens will automaticly copy what she's doing. so u don't have to worry about that. but u have a new kitty that u bought at a pet shop u will have to teach it when it starts walking.

As soon as they are big enough to get out of the box they were born in. Its amazing how smart they are. All you have to do is put them in there 1 or 2 times and they have it ! :)
