I'm painting my kitchen and don't know if I should paint the baseboards or leave them white? The colors I'm using are not pale or pastel...

you can do either. what ever you like. but....if you do....paint the baseboards 1st.....my husband is a house painter.....& thats what he does.

Styles come and go. You could watch HGTV today and find six different opinions--one loves white baseboards, another likes them in a contrasting color. It's all a matter of what you love.

That said, I would definitely paint the baseboards. They will show up dirty when you paint the walls, simply because they're not as clean as new paint. And I would choose to make them white if they look good with your new paint, or a few shades lighter or darker, but the same color you're using.

Ask the paint dept at Home Depot for those sample color cards that show which colors go together if you want something totally different from your wall color. But please follow your own opinion of what looks good, even if they disagree. You have to live with it--not anyone else.

I think the baseboards should always be white or off white. Painting the same color all the way down doesn't "frame" the room the way baseboards in a light shade can. The color you chose will also have more punch if framed in white.

Yes, paint them so everything will match properly. White shows up dirt more than most other colors and is more difficult to keep clean, which you have probably found out by now since the baseboards are already white.
