I was involved in an automobile accident which resulted in Traumatic Brain Injury, I recovered beautifully but still suffer from a few residual problems such as: attention span, concentration level, and most of all, short term memory loss. I know blueberries are great for memory, and I dont like nuts and fish literally makes me ill. I am on a medication to help and I take a couple of different vitamens but I would like to know what other foods/beverages I can partake in, that will help my overall brain function and memory.

Hi Onedimple,
Funny how people here don't read the question. You say fish makes you ill, yet several answers say fish. Oh well.

I did a web search for you. A very good editorial (professionally written) article I found on ways on brain supplements (besides a bunch of ads which I don't trust) was here: http://www.champhealth.com/brainsupplements.html

The article talks more about supplements and spices rather than foods, but sprinkling tumeric on your foods will work quite well for you, too.

I hope this helps you.

Hi,...
In traditional arabic medicine there are some foods known for their benefits for the brain and nervous system in general:

1-Dates!!(It is very rich in phosphuros and magnesium)) which are very important for neuron function....so if u dont like fish..u can substitute it with dates(concerning the phosphurous). Here in arabia they r abundant...but I know that america has it all :-)...so try to find some.

2-Raisans....are well known for their benefits for memeory in particular.

3-Thyme.(take it grounded with sesame for best results)....this herb is very essential in some arab populations on the eastern medditeranian....like palestine and lebanon.......if u really eat it every day for a long time....u will notice the difference.

3-As a medical student..I advise u of taking some vitamin B tablets(vitamins B1 till B12(as a separate tablet)............but please ask your doctor before taking any vitamns...and dont take them on a regular basis for too long((ALWAYS ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT ANYTHING YOU TAKE NO MATTER WHAT))......((vitamin b family is a corner stone for neuronal function)).

Wish you the best of everything...and may god heal u to perfect as before.....love.
