There are an estimated 50000 Irish illegals in the USA. These are not economic immigrants. Ireland is much more prosperous that America by any measurements. Unemployment is non existent in modern Ireland.
Most Irish in the US go for the unparalleled experience of living in the "capital of the world". Many go on a short term visa, set down roots, and are afraid to return home in case they can't get back in.
Should they be legalized?

Top o' the mornin' to ya'!! ♣ I lived there and jobs are NOT plentiful in Ireland and economically Ireland is NOT more prosperous than the USA. We have had our share of civil and social unrest in the past century and into the 21st century. Many Irish come to the USA to seek better jobs. I came legally and they should also. Illegal immigration (expired visa) is still wrong and they should get legal or go back home. Ireland is my ancestral homeland, but I am an American, legally. There are many Irish who work in manufacturing, carpentry, machinists, electricians, etc. There are more opportunities in the USA for these and other jobs.

It was formerly US policy to maintain immigration in proportion to the existing racial and national-origin makeup of the population. This favored migration from Northern Europe, including Ireland.
The policy became politically untenable in the last quarter of the 20th Century and was abandoned, whereupon the immigration mix moved to Latin America, Asia and Africa.
No reversal is possible. The diversity lottery was invented to try to increase the dispersion of migrants further, because in fact migration tends to be not only from particular countries that have a tradition of exporting citizens (Philippines, for example), but particular regions within countries (Gujarat).
But you ask about existing illegals. The Administration has proposed something. But they want to maintain a source of cheap labor for their friends in industry. I think most Irish are in the building trades and small buisness. They have few friends outside of Boston and New York, I think.

No, Irish Illegals need to go back to the Emerald Isle and follow the legal process if they wish to reside here.

i think all illegal immigration should stop !!!! there are people waiting who are trying to do it right but if we are going to feel sorry for a group of people and give amnesty it should be them in my book just on the basis they kept their mouth's shut and they were not in the streets with a different flag ,changing our song and being disrespectful !

When's it gonna sink in that it's not an illegal issue, it's a race issue. If I get a dime for everytime someone says that they dont any more colored people I'd have Warren Buffet running for his money. People here, most of them, dislike multiculturalism, and abhorr diversity.
Dont you watch the news?

It does not matter where someone is from......... if they came here, they must obey our laws.
No one should be given amnesty unless everyone is given amnesty.......... beginning with american citizens
An illegal immigrant is a common criminal
