I have seen tapes of people "crucify" themselves for a whole day (from morning to sunset) and at the end of the day are walking around smoking a cig.
I have read about it and usually it takes about 24-48 hours before a person dies on the cross.

Purely from a physiological point of view, the length of time it takes to die can vary tremendously. Crucifixion by itself - that is suspending someone by nails through the hand bones is not life threatening. The pain and the exposure and lack of food and water together with the person's will to live are much more important factors. Remember that Jesus believed that it was God's will that he should die.
Whether or not he did die (and whether the spear in the side was fatal) is not as important as the symbolism. In fact, to question whether things happened the way they are described or, indeed, whether they happened at all, is to miss the point.
In the 2000 years since Jesus lived, the human way of thinking has changed considerably. Today we are much more insistent on facts being correct to the point where we cannot believe something if there are no proved facts to back it up. This is a useful attribute if we are solving a crime or investigating a scientific theory but it doesn't work with religion or spirituality.
If you insist on factual correctness, then you will think that the previous paragrah destroys its own argument and I can't help you, I'm afraid.
Here is one investigation by a medical person which may be of interest: http://www.konnections.com/kcundick/crucifix.html I would say that a lot of the detail is conjectural but it is, at least, an attempt to answer the question of why Jesus died so quickly.

Depending on how strong you are and your will to survive it varied a lot. from 1 hour to all day. Specially when a prisoner had been flogged or weakened by malnourishment you'd expect them to die within the hour. Very common among Roman soldiers to place bets on who would die first.
You were positioned in such a way that hanging by your arms would not allow you to breath. 'Standing' on your feet was impossible as your legs were bent and so you had to (and only could) lift a few inches just to get your breath. Just try squatting down and just lift a few inches. See how long you would last.
This is where the breaking of the legs gets in after a day. Not wanting to stick around for the night the Romans would break the 'executed' man's legs so he could not stand. Somebody would suffocate in a minute after such an exhausting day.
I hope that this is more info than you wanted.
Vinegar was basically wine gone sour. Alcohol content was almost zero but it was considered refreshing. It got your saliva flowing again and that's the trick to prevent a dry mouth.

If you are going by what the gospels tell us then you need to look at what He had been through before being nailed to the cross. He had not eaten anything other than the Passover meal. He had been betrayed, spent hours praying and grieving over what was to come, was beaten, moved around for so many trials (several illegal), and then forced to carry His cross. So, yes, I think that given the circumstances, six hours is long enough to kill someone.

Crucifixion can not kill in 6 hours, but loss of blood from a battered and wounded body long before the Crucifixion surely will. Jesus survived 40 days without food in the dessert. If we underwent the same suffering, how many of us could make it to the cross. I think none.

Crucificion is actually Romans method to punish ppl at that time (mind my simple english)
The Israelians at that time doesnt believe in Prophed Isa(Jesus) so they spread bad rumous way up to the Romans empire. Then the Romans issue a capture on Jesus. The lead told them that he is will take a hide in a house then the Roman army went and waited there. Instead of Jesus, his betrayed fren came into the house and was caught by the Roman Army and was badly beaten until his face was unrecognisable. When the Roman ask is he Jesus, his only reply is " you claim that Im Jesus"
Thus he's been crucified

Six hours is shorter than normal, which is why the solider in charge ran the spear through him to be sure he was dead. Remember that prior to the crucifixion, Jesus was beaten by Roman soliders, sent to Herod for a second beating, and then returned to Pilate for a scouring and beating before being nailed to the cross.
The main cause of death during a crucificion is from suffocation. Hunging by your arms causes the neck and shoulders to move up and out of place. If you can not keep your head up, you will be unable to breath. This is why, to hurry the death of the others, they broke their legs so they would be unable to push themselves up to breath. In Jesus' weaked condition, he did not have to strength to keep himself pushed up for more than six hours, so - as the scriptures say - "he hung his head and died".
And yes, there was a miracle planned, and it went off just as it had been planned and prophecied over 1000 years before. (Read Psalms 22 some time). The miracle was that he rose from the dead. A bigger miracle then anything else he could have done to get himself off the cross. In the process making it possible for anyone who wanted to share the victory to also be raised from the deathness of their lives. It is available to you today if you would like to pray and ask God for that New Life.
You will be in my prayers toady...

It defintely killed Christ. more effective than 5,000 witnessed it. He grow to be stabbed with a sword and, no longer blood, yet sparkling fluid got here out. Yep he grow to be defintely useless. Even then, he might want to were killed by technique of the embalming chemical substances in the course of the ceremonies. Or he might want to have suffocated and die of dehydration in the thoroughly seald, small tomb after 3 days without water or new oxygen. He grow to be raised from the useless. little question about it. 500 documented charges of his resurection. The Crucifiction DID kill Christ. yet, he rose back.

Before Jesus was put in the cross, he was beaten almost to death, he suffers whips lashing, that left him bleeding to death also, he must have lost many blood.
Romans whip, in their points have, bones, metal to inflict the victim, more pain and to take the flesh form the skin...So he virtually was left with no skin in the back...he have a crown of thorn encrusted in his head...those thorns are very thick and some more than and inch long...
Then he was nailed to a cross, hanging his weight over his body, difficulty to breath normally....And 6 hours, beaten, wiped, throned, carrying your heavy cross, and hanging form a cross almost making your breathing impossible?
How long you think a person can survive this?

I would have to believe that after the flogging, and carrying the cross (which he couldn't do due to physical weakness), He would have died fairly quickly. There are some books out there that talk about the physiology of crucifixion.
If Jesus hadn't really died, then the Jews wouldn't have had to have paid the Roman Soldiers to lie about the body being stolen.
