Religions survive to the extent that they convince people that they are the "one true way". If Christian churches preached that the bible was only one of many routes to truth and that there was nothing wrong with pursuing alternatives, there would be nothing that felt "special" about rallying around the bible, and those churches would simply fade away over time.
It's a simple matter of evolution, surprisingly. The fact that Christians rally around the bible as some of your respondents here have is in fact good evidence of evolution.

I'm a Christian who believes the Bible is the "be-all, end-all". We as Christians are kindof "over a barrel" in issues like this. We base our faith on the teachings of Christ (That is what a Christian is) and Christ said that the His Word (which we believe is the Bible) is the truth and that it contains all that we need for living and for godliness. Christ also taught that if we believe in Him we are to abide (stay) in His Word. We are also taught that when Christ left that Christ would send the Holy Spirit and He would guide us into the truth. Christ also taught that if we love Him we will keep His commandments. Put it all together and the question is are we going to follow the teachings of Christ? If we do then He has made His Word paramount. So are we going to follow Him accept His Word as truth, or just make up our own rules? Some of us decide to accept what He says and we become those who believe the Bible is the "be-all, end-all"

That is a great question, everyone should ask that same question.
The only way to know the truth is with the help of the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Truth). If you had the Spirit of Truth you would know that the Bible is the Truth, it shows the way to Life which is Jesus.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way, that's just the reality, all these people who don't believe, are to intelligent, laugh at the Bible or at God, just don't have a way on knowing the Truth short of Jesus himself coming into their heart. I don't hate them , I am not mad at them, I love them and won't them to know the Truth.
God Bless you all

Well, that's because the Bible IS the be-all, end-all book for how to live. Not that we can't learn from other books, but anything that violates scripture is something to stay away from.
Oh, I believe that there are plenty of people who don't follow the Bible--heck, I screw up a lot and I actually try to!
Here's my question: why do some people not follow the Bible?? There's got to be a reason, there's probably several. What are they?

Within the first four gospels of the New Testament lay a great way to live your life. The ideal of trying to be a peaceful, loving person, who is tolerant of others is a great thing. What I want to know is why do they follow the teachings of Paul on homosexuality, and not the teachings of Christ? Most of these people would be better called Paulians.

For most Christians, the Bible is the Book.
They believe it to be God's word.
They didn't write it but the have read it and believe it.
The Bible is their platform of belief.
That is why you hear a lot of people attacking it.
They know that the Bible is their platform of belief.
When something is calibrated, you have a standard and the thing being calibrated.
The thing being calibrated is compared to the standard.
The standard is always correct. If there is a difference between the standard and the thing being calibrated, the thing being calibrated is wrong.
THE BIBLE IS THE STANDARD.

Those that treat Bible as a holy book that give 100% truth are breaking the commandments because they are setting a book written by men ahead of God

Thank you for using "some" and not "all", or "everyone" as so many misguided folks on this site do. I also appreciate "Most, i'd say are pretty cool" as I like to think I am. I believe that if one looks into their heart, they will find the truth. I'm convinced that if everyone followed the golden rule, there would be a lot more peace in this world.
'Nuff said?

Because some people are delusional and they need a crutch. They want to believe that they are blessed and are special to god. None of the biblical claims have been proved (the creation, virgin birth, miracle, resurrection, rapture), but some people will believe all of it, whereas others dismiss it as a collection of writings (some of which are fascinating).
And yes, many Christians will give you that self-righteous, disapproving, disappointed look when you tell them that you don't believe the statements.

Becuase Homosexuality is a sin. Just look at our bodies. They aren't designed for it.
As for the Bible. It is the TRUTH. What do I base that on? Lots. Faith and foremost. BUt here is some evidence. It was written over 1500 years by 40 different authors from poor to king, from dullard to doctor and there is no conflict in it. That could only happen if God told the writters what to write.
