Jesus was a self-Proclaimed King. The Jews never recognized him as anything but a man. Not a prophet, not a teacher certainly not the Messiah and definitely not a god .

That's like asking why something wasn't before ikt could have been.

There were no "chrisitans" before Jesus Christ was a man, in flesh.
Christians follow Christ.

They are Jews who beleive that Jesus was the son of God.

The Jewish religion currently does not believe that Jesus Christ was the son of God.

They follow the old testament, all the stuff written in the bible prior to Jesus being born.

Think of the Christian religion as being new since Jesus died and rose again, then ascended into heaven in a cloud.

Christians are those who do believe Jesus WAS the king of the Jews.

Christian is a term used too loosely today.

Remember there are many who claim to be this or that and are practicing hyppocrites.

The difference is found within.
I hope this helps.
It is confusing.

Peace, Joy, and Love.

Jesus was called "King of the Jews" because he was born out of the Jewish royal house of David. Putting "INRI" (short for the Latin "Iesu Nazarene Rex Iudaeorum") on the cross was a way for the Romans to make fun not only of Jesus but of the idea of there being a Jewish king. The followers of Jesus were Jews. They didn't start calling themselves (or being called by others) Christians until after Jesus' death, when the split within the remaining apostles as to whether they should remain Jews and keep the message and the mission Jewish or start taking in Gentiles was resolved such that the group splintered away from Judaism. They identified themselves as "followers of Christ," or Christians, as distinct and separate from the Jewish faith.

Something happened a long time ago and the Jews never accepted Jesus as the Messiah so down the ages Jews remained "Jews" and did not convert to Christianity. It is one of life's biggest ironies.

The Jews were expecting a "military type" leader. The next time Jesus comes back, He will be like this. Some Jews have accepted this fact. Christians have accepted this fact.
Jews are still waiting on their Messiah.

Some Jews ARE Christians, but they prefer to be called Messianic Jews. This is because of the intense persecution the Jews received from pseudo-Christians during the Crucades, etc.

In order for a Jew to be a Christian (Messianic), he or she must accept Yeshua (Jesus) as the promised Savior Messiah. Those who do not accept Yeshua as Messiah have been blinded to His identity; God has declared that, in the near future, He will begin reasoning with them to demonstrate Yeshua's true identity (see Ezekiel 38 and 38).

"Chris P:" the Bible does not support the notion that gentile Christians become Jews after we are Born Again; we are only heirs to the PROMISES made to Abraham, not heirs according to the flesh. The "flesh" promises made to Abraham and his decendents are distinctly separate from the promises made to his spiritual heirs. Besides, there is no rational reason for gentiles to feel the need to become Jews. God considers Born Again gentiles equal to Born Again Jews in every way. Romans 2:29 speaks to Jews who say they're Jewish because they were born that way and circumcized; Paul argues these folks are only OUTWARD Jews, unless their faith has made them Jews INWARDLY.

Because, he is the King of the Jews, and the Jews who decide to fallow Jesus are call Christians now....
Remember the first Christian were Jews, and now there is a new movement of Christian Jews call Messianic Jews; they fallow all Jewish taught and believe in Jesus also, as the son of God!

Jesus was sent first and foremost to give the good news of God's kingdom to the Jews, but as we know they rejected Him, at least a lot of them did. The disciples were instructed to give the good news to the gentiles, to the very ends of the earth, and despite their upbringing to believe that nothing could displace the Jews as God's chosen people, these faithful men and women did spread the news. All followers of Jesus, the Christ, became commonly known as Christians some time later, now there are many Jews who are known as Messianic Jews because they have the Jewish heritage but have accepted Jesus. It's just another way of saying 'christian' but acknowledges their Jewish heritage, all respect to Jews of course.

More importantly, if Jesus were the King of the Jews, why are there Christians?
