Beyoncé Knowles claims she lost 20 pounds by consuming a concoction made up of maple syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper. Of course it's not just any maple syrup but an organic "Madal Bal Natural Tree" syrup (UK distributor / USA distributor). Consequently sales of the product are soaring (src).
The maple syrup is part of a "detox" or fast.
According to Beyonce:
"I lived on water, cayenne pepper and maple syrup for 14 days. It was tough; everyone was eating and I was dying."
These kind of diets are foolhardy indeed, and it is not the first time that maple syrup has been mentioned by someone of celebrity status.
Without laboring the point - living on a maple syrup concoction for days on end will probably leave you: weak, with less muscle, a lot less glycogen (in the form of fluid loss), and probably very grumpy. Give this a wide berth.
What did Beyonce do after enduring her maple syrup ordeal?
"After that I ate waffles, fried chicken, cheeseburgers, french fries, everything I could find.
"That was the best time of my life. I've gained twelve pounds."

In 7 days you can lose 7lbs on almost any diet! - but it's not fat - it's water, which will be put on again when you start to eat properly.
Drink plenty of water - it flushes everything out, including broken up fat. Drink fresh lemon juice or cider vinegar in water every morning and eat a healthy low fat, low carb, low calorie diet. Fresh Veg and protein. Forget the maple syrup, though a little exercise, if you can find a maypole would certainly help!

I`d hire a Maypole , put it in my garden, if it fitted, and get some friends to dance round it with me, all eating from a tin of syrup. Could be a bit messy though!
er...On second thoughts....Did you mean the `maple` syrup diet?
If so, sorry I can`t help you.

Ouch, a maple syrup diet? Maple syrup is nutrition-less. There are no vitamins; there is no fiber, protein, fat, complex carbohydrates (it's all just simple sugar), or anything needed to keep the body going. The digestive system needs bulk, a balance of things.

actually she lost a stone in a month. all you eat is the syrup (nothing else) and it costs about £40 a bottle (so it will be very expensive to keep it up). Also apparently it does taste very nice at all. And the fact that as soon as you stop eating the stuff and go back to normal food all the weight you lost will go back on.
Just join a gym and use a personal trainer, it will be cheaper and the weight won't go back on if u stop.

Maple syrup, lemon, cayenne (chilli pepper) and water.
But don't bother.
I'm all for fad diets but this one is just starvation by another name. Even Beyonce has now said it's a stupid thing to do and she'll never do it again.
