We have lots of old family videos and I'd love to convert them to dvd format as I'm afraid the old cassettes will wear and cannot be played

the easiest way i can think of to do that would be buy a good dvd recorder like this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4810679 and hook your vcr or video camera up to it and play your home movies while recording on the dvd recorder.
good luck ghos_t

Yes , you can convert video cassettes to dvds by getting a dvd combo writer and connecting it to the VCR.

Sure, just run the output from the VCR to the input of the DVD recorder.

Yes. You can send them to a special company that takes your old home videos and they will put them on dvd for you.
