I've just accuired a second hand scanner, a scanMagic 600CU. I understand that a window is supposed to pop-up once I plug it in. Unfortunately, it hasn't done that and there's no mention of a scanner on the control panel. Please don't use too many jive words, as I've had none or very little experience in installing Software or Hardware. Thanks.

Download the driver from the manufacturers website.

You didn't say if it is a USB or Parallel scanner, but checking Mustek's website it appears it's a USB.
Here's the link I found for the driver software, However, it ONLY lists Windows 98/
There's a "CONTACT SUPPORT" button at the webpage so you might try it if you're using something other than Windows 98. Although most times a 98 driver will work with XP. Just be SURE to READ the installation instructions and EXACTLY as instructed to install the driver software.

You must install the software which the person who sold you gave to you. Just insert the disc to the CD Drive and follow each step. Restarting may be necessary after you install it. After installing the software, and of course, after restarting it, plug it in your scanner and it is ready to use.

Have you installed any software? if not, you might be able to download the software from the Scanmagic website.
