Breakfast was served between set times. Toast and cereal were available at other times, when staff were able to prepare them.
Drinks were generally provided for patients at set times through the day, unless requested.
There was no provision for patients or their visitors to make own drinks.
Some staff held the view that it was not safe for patients suffering from mental illness to use a kettle.
Patients were encouraged to depend on staff, rather than be independent.
