I just like to know things, I am curious, nothing specific, everything in general...I have eclectic tastes. I'm all over the map so to speak. I can also become quite fixated on one author and need to read every book they wrote., i.e., Norman Mailler, Henry James, and Mark Twain and P.J. O'Rourke for fun...but that is just me.
Someone on Yahoo suggested a book they thought was great "American Theocracy" and I've already ordered it because the subject is of interest. I have read all kinds of books on economics and yet never taken a course in it. When I attended college tho I went for the grades only to prove to myself I could get them. I did and it gave me self confidence. On the job I gave it 200% effort without trying to look like a smart butt if you know what I mean. I don't recommend that however...I find that other people are threatened but that and the big whigs just hand you more and more work because they know you'll get it done and done right but they are pretty cheap when it comes to your annual review. They don't put time and effort into YOU... So go with the flow in that department unless you are looking to be top dog. I was not.

You never know what knowledge you will be called upon to have or who all's well being will depend on your ability to handle new situations and emergencies. You can't know too much. Your brain will improve with use. Your genius will improve will open minded acceptance. No matters if there are studies you hate; there are studies you love and may be guided to. If you don't think you know it all and can accept guidance, even invisible guidance there are no ends in this world and the next to your education. Embrace it.

My best motivation is when I really have a strong need to know the answers. I had a hard time in school but I really wanted to learn to type. When I finally got to take the class, there was nothing I couldn't learn to do with that manual typewritter. For the first and only time in my life kids were asking me how I figured out things out that were challenging on those old fashoned typing machines!!!!! It made me feel smart for a change.

I am a curious person and I like to know things. I also have to keep my knowledge base current in regards to my profession. I didn't study that much in school, though I read a lot in general. Now that I am out of school, I enjoy learning more, because it is more specific and self-directed.
In order to study and learn, you have to want to learn, internal motivation is best.

To gain knowledge to empower myself in the economic, social, cultural, political spheres. The best motivation is of course the power that goes with being informed - being ignorant is costly!
