Isn't the trend in volleyball specialization? The players return to their specialized positions in two seconds, and the strict positioning seems a remainder from the past rather than part of today's magnificent trend of modifying volleyball rules.

Yeah, it helps the Ref. to see the players in their rotation position even though they move out if it right away. This way score keepers, Refs, coaches, etc. know that the players know where they belong.

No, it is not a trend, but rather a good idea. If players were not restricted to their 'position' the court would be chaos and injuries would occur more often. I wouldn't go so far as saying that the trend of modifying volleyball rules is magnificent either. There are several rules that have been changed and these changes simply make it easier for the player and require less skill. A while ago a person could only serve in a small serving area. Now, the server can move freely from one corner of the tape to the other. The other rule is that the serve can skim the net. The rules officials should stop insulting its players by making play easier.

What fun would it be to just sit in one position for the entire game, and match for that matter? Volleyball is one of the few sports where it is okay to have some specialization, but you still have to develop other skills to play the game. Plus part of the strategy is knowing when to rotate someone in and out of the game/match.

its a habit, i do it all the time, but i personally dont think its necessary. its just to get used to the space and makes sure no one takes another persons ball or dont let the ball hit the ground because of empty spaces
