No it's not too late but you have a lot of work ahead of you. Consistancy will be the key. you have to start as soon as possible and don't let up. You'll have to be on your toes 24 hours a day. Once you start the training you can let up until they are trained as you want them. Then it's easier to re-inforce when they try to revert back. You don't have to train 24 hours a day, normally 1-2 hours a day for hard core training, as long as it's fun fo the dog gowes a long way, the other time you have to watch out for bad behaviors that you want to correct and correct them when you see them. For stuff liek that dogs havea very short memory. As soon as you see bad behavior correct it then.

The statement " you can't teach old dogs new tricks" is a myth. The only time you can't teach a dog obedience is when they take thier last breath. The key to traing in three words, excersise, disapline and love. Your dog is not old at 8 months, granted they say it shold start a 8 weeks but the one thing that will help is make sure you keep repeating the same responds ( keep them off the furature, you must remove them everytme you see the on the furnature. and establishing pack leader.I suggest you watch THE DOG WISPERER on the Discovery Channel at 8:00 pm on Friday. He has given me great training tips. Also a dog should be walked on a leash, depending on the breed and kind of dog you have (working dog, water dog ect.) as to how much they need.

It's never too late to train a dog. The easiest way may be to find a trainer and take them to classes. Not always the cheapest way to do it, (PetSmart in Louisiana charges $99 for 6 weeks) but I know a few people who have gotten discouraged when trying to train on their own and have basically given up. Both you and your dogs will be happier once they have learned some basic obedience.
Just remember to ALWAYS reward good behavior, either with a treat are lavish praise. My boxer loves a good belly rub!

not at all. we've always had boxers, even when i was a baby. i'm almost 20 now. in all the years i've been around them, i've never met a boxer who cant learn a new trick or anything, despite the age. obviously a very old dog will have a harder time, but an 8 mth old will be perfectly fine. our boxer we have now, Hank, was adopted from the pound because he was abused horribly. hes alomost 4 and he's still learning new things.

It's never too late to teach your dog. I have a Bichon/Shitzu cross. He was 2 years old when my uncle met him and decided to train him how to walk, not bark at every little thing that he heard, not jump, and not beg. My uncle was surprised to see how eager my dog was to learn. But if you treat the dog with love and patience. you'll find that it will try very hard to do as you ask. They like to know that they've pleased their owners. Give him/her lots of praise. And lots of patience. It does take awhile for them to learn, but eventually they do get it. Just treat them like they're children. and you'll be surprised at the results. Pet Smart has obedience classes for all ages if your unsure of how to train them I would suggest that these classes (because they are in group form not individual) would probably suit your needs.

Absolutely not too late. This is a great time to train them because they're not babies any more. I would suggest at this young age you train them at home, though. Don't take them to obedience classes until they're at least 1 year old. All the yelling at obedience classes is much too traumatic.

It is never to late to teach a dog. That old "can't teach an old dog new tricks" is a myth....total nonsense. Obedience training your pups is a great idea. If you are not sure how to go about it take one of the dogs for obedience classes. they teach you how to train a dog then you can apply it to both dogs.

i am answering you because of the specific reason that you mentioned boxers. boxers are unique in their character since they hold their puppy disposition till their end. they are tireless creatures like a Genie of Aladdin's lamp to ask time and again give them new tricks!! so as long as you said boxer you can teach them till their end. you can put them under any command at any age, not only basic but even advanced!! at later years only because they tend to have hearing deficiency as applied to dogs they try to catch slowly!!

Check your local humane society for training courses. We just signed our 3 month old boxer up for puppy kindergarten! But there was classes designed for dogs a little older. You are very brave having 2 boxer puppies- one is a handful :)
