I want to make a report that links more than one table, together. The tables are books, category & publisher. I want the report to be organized by category or if possible to open using a parameter.

ok - under query wizard, write a query that will get you all the data you need. in query, you can set parameter (there is a menu option for that), one or more, name them, and use them in your query as in category=myparamter

to organize your report, in report wizard, make report from your query, and there is leveling etc so you choose to level by category

yeah u can use more than one table for reporting!
