For goodness sake, girl, " looking after a sick mother " is one of the oldest scams in the book; kids at school try that one to get money from Red Cross workers, and Nigerians are the worst of all. Did you know that in Nigerian schoold, kids are taught how to fill out English benefit claims forms?????? Do not send this man a penny; if he needs help for his "sick mummy" tell him to contact the Red Cross. Most of this money is used for buying drugs!!!!!! My sis worked in Nigerial with the Red Cross as an aid worker for 5 years, believe me, he is scamming you. You could also be breaking the law by sending money to him- the Government want to crack down on this to try and help cut the drug problem, so for goodness sake, if you want to help somebody who REALLY needs, send money to the Red Cross, not this bloody lying scrounger!!!!!!

Ok so he sent you a cheque and you are waiting until it clears .
Why was the cheque sent in the first place?
If he is saying he hasn't any money how have you got a cheque for money why you? has he no family in uk if he lives in uk?
it does sound like money laundering to me but its up to you send him money when its cleared and tell him you will be unable to do it again for him ,i wonder if he will still chat with you if you refuse to do any more money dealing with him.
Then of course the cheque might not even clear if it doesn't just tell him and ask for him to send you no more cheques and do not give him details.
I read another post you put up and someone makes a good point the cheque could clear but not be totally cleared leave it a good while there are stories cheques get funds released and when the person sends money over the cheque then isnt cleared and the person has to pay back the money.
Do not send any money next weds even if money is in your account double check with the bank it is totally cleared and if you take any money out you will not be paying for it,if its not totally cleared but they have released money do not touch it !
infact call his bluff now tell him police have called to your house today asking about this cheque and they need to speak to him get a convincing freind to be police and get him to ring a number he should be able to provide details like his uk address and where he is in nigeria and passport number etc if he doesnt do it hes not legal.

You still don't understand how this scam works. The check will clear. You will send him money. Then later, the check will bounce. Checks can still bounce even after they have "cleared." The bank will tell you that you owe them money for the bounced check. You will complain saying: "But you said it had cleared." The bank will say too bad, when a check "clears" it does not mean it is good. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THIS MAN EVEN IF THE CHECK CLEARS.
Below is an example of how this scam works.

please don't send any money at all because it is a scam. i wass also one of their targets. they ask you to help and they always make up an excuse of looking after someone sick (like their mother) they make it sound so true that you just want to help. if it was true do you really think that someone would be asking on yahoo for money. he just hit a nerve with you as they did with me saying that he wa looking after his sick child and i have 4 children so that really pulled on my good heart but after i did some research i found that i was not the only one getting taken by a bunch of con artists
good luck

Don't EVER give your money to strangers on the Internet, simple as that...
Chances are the guy's a con artist - looking for people like you, with a big heart, to send him money,
If you care that much about cancer, donate to cancer research & help the world, not just some random stranger in a distant land (who is probably talking rubbish).

hunny, I think you are lovelly person, but I have to tell you this is a very well known scam...all the Nigerian ones are like this... how did you get in contact with this guy? - through an email I expect! These people sit in internet cafes in Lagos and spend all day spamming people with US and UK email addresses, I watched a TV programme on it... don't send him any money, you will NEVER get it back, and also they (cos its more than one) will try and steal your identity by using your banking details, even though its a new account - this information is still valuable to them, as with that information they can potentially run up huge debts in your name.
I wish you well.

Movements of £5000+ can get investigated as a precaution against money laundering. If he has nothing to hide then he can prove to the authorities that that is where the money is going = medical expenses which in turn means he should not need you. Dodgy.

Uh kind of wierd rambling........but I think I get your point. DON'T SEND THIS GUY ANY MONEY. There are plenty of registered charities and homeless in your area around you that would appreciate your donation and help. Just think about it.....if it sounds dodgy then it probably is and you keep saying that you know it sounds a bit off. Don't be silly. It's a scam through and through.

Don't be ridiculous.
This scam has been on the go for years!!!!
Nigeria is one of the most fraudulent countries on earth!. My wife works for an airline (a BIG one) and they completely refuse to accept any form of card payment from Nigeria for tickets etc. this is because the place is so bad for fraud, the banks are even in on scams.
PLEASE don't be silly enough to fall for this con. I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but you're these fraudsters dreams-come-true.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE see this con-trick for what it is.
