Here are some time tested solutions to prevent loss and dulling of hair.
1. Take collagen. This may be in the form of tablets (eg. Super Collagen+C manufactured by Pure @ Natural) or as a powder drink preparation (eg. 3Rflex manufactured by LeRoy) These food supplements can be found in health food stores such as GNC, Healthy Options. etc).
Collagen is a complex protein which maintains the strength and production of skin, hair, nails, joints, etc. You will notice harder nails and stronger hair as well as less hair loss in as early as a week if one of the reasons for your hair loss is a lack of collagen
2. Take a vitamin and mineral preparation specially formulated for healthier hair. (eg.Ultra Hair Plus by Nature's Plus) These preparations are seen in health stores and usually contain MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) among other things (B complex vit, Pantothenic acid, Biotin). In my experience, taking these supplements ALONE do not seem to have as dramatic an impact on hair loss prevention or improvement of the texture and shine as the collagen preparations. Adding these vit/ mineral supplements however may help a bit more.
3. Improve scalp circulation by massaging your scalp at least twice daily. Good circulation means better blood supply which delivers the above mentioned nutrients to your scalp.
4. Use a drug preparation - Minoxidil 5-10 % (lower dosage for females) These come in shampoo and spray solutions, the latter applied to the scalp and massaged twice daily. I tried this before I learned about collagen and I could tell it takes longer for Minoxidil to take effect (the brochure said 6 months) . I stopped using Minoxidil after a month when I learned about collagen. Minoxidil is a proven cure in most cases but will take longer
5. Other things to consider include
a. check for allergies to certain shampoos, usually
from colorants or frangrances added to the shampoo
b. de-stress your lifestyle, Hair loss is frequently due to
stress.
These are scientifically proven solutions which have worked for me and unless you are genetically prone to lose your hair at this time, I'm sure these suggestions will really help
