"AFFORDABLE" art in most instances increase in value extremely slowly. Only if you are really lucky and stumble on an unknown who has overnight success will 'affordable' art really increase in vale. (At least here in SA).

I buy original SA art work that I like. If they increase in value , great, if not I've at least had something that gave me pleasure.

If you don't spend at least $10,000 (appraised value), only expect tp enjoy it. It's not an investment. The value likely will not increase and very well may decrease. But even ten grand is a risky price --investment league is more like $50K) for something you expect will provide an ROI.

Scope out art schools "senior thesis" shows. They are the next generation. You can buy the work pretty cheaply, and hopefully they will make a name for themselves!
