I am naturally a brunette. but i have always had my hair dyed blonde up until a year and a half ago. it has been the natural color ever since. would it be hard on my hair if i went back to blonde?

Dying or bleaching your hair in any sort of way damages it.

That's why there's so many products on the market that are preventative or restorative to color treated hair.

Bleaching your hair is unhealthy for it, will dry it out and make it brittle.

There ARE ways of keeping your hair healthier when bleaching it- protein helps and also, getting nourishing hair products from salons, etc.

Try to avoid over-using straightening/curling irons and hairdryers if you bleach your hair a lot, as they will only make it worse.

Use the proper shampoos and conditioners and you should be okay- your hair will never be AS healthy when it's been bleached as to when it is its natural colour, but you can keep it blonde and have it at a reasonable level of maintenence.

Oh, and it also depends on how dark brown your hair was to begin with-- the darker your natural colour, the more harsh the bleach has to be to get it blonde, thus, the more unhealthy your hair will be... if you have light brown hair & bleach blonde as opposed to having dark brown hair and bleaching, your hair will be healthier.

Lightening dark hair is bound to cause some damage to the hair as quite strong chemicals are involved but professional processing by a good hairdresser should involve proper conditioning treatment and you can keep the condition of your hair reasonable yourself by careful choice of products and the routine use of 'deep conditioners' once a week. If you hair is very dark then you must get it done professionally but if the colour is more 'mousy' like mine then there are excellent products that allow you to do it yourself. Pick the colour you want and take note of the customer advice line before you buy, give them a ring and ask their advice before you waste your money - but do be truthfull about the colour of your hair and it's condition. If your hair is very long, however, I would consult a good hairdresser as the longer the hair, the more likely it is to be damaged by any hair changing process. - Pat

The majority of brunettes look bland as blondes and dying your hair is extremely damaging if you have to maintain it all the time.

yeah, it completely murders your hair. T_T A friend is always dying her hair different colors, and by now we have no idea WHAT her natural hair color would be if she just let it all wash out!

yeah but why dye your hair when it looks good the way it is....yeah most guys like blonde.....i do, but anyway...if your hair looks better brunette then keep it that way...but if it looks better blonde then do it that way. Do what ever you want no one can stop you from doing what you wanna do!

It shouldn't effect you much unless your doing it all the time. If you do it all the time, you might experience hair loss and scalp problems.
