Several variables.. In my state, vehicles that are "held" are those involving a criminal investigation. Usually if a vehicle is held for prints and processed, it isn't kept for 30 days.

Vehicles that are say impounded for private property infractions are released when the fee is paid. Much the same for parking tickets.. pay the fine and the vehicle is released. The departments in my area do not have an impound yard per se. We contract with a company but we don't have an exclusive impound "yard". You may want to check with your local PD for guidelines.

You do not indicate the state you live in; but, in general, a vehicle suspected of being involved in a crime, may be impounded for any length of time law enforcement officials deem necessary.

In most states, vehicles impounded for expired license plates, picked up as abandoned vehicles, confiscated from drivers " under the influence", may be redeemed from the "impound" when proper identification and proof of restitution is provided.

It depends on what you did to get it impounded. Illegal parking is not as severe as drunk driving.
